Can prolonged zoloft use cause extreme sweating? I sweat excessively, sometimes even waking up from naps drenched in sweat. I can start dripping in sweat just standing outside for 5 minutes. I have been taking zoloft for social anxiety disorder for over a year, but my sweating is getting worse, not better... Can anyone help or explain? I am up to 200 mg per day.

fretochose replied: "zoloft shoud not be the source of the sweating..the social anxiety can be....sweating while you nap could possibly be a respiratory problem. soaking in a tub on warm water with a 1/2 gallon vinegar is an old remedy...just dont do it right before a date!"

Kelley E replied: "It sure looks like it might. When I did a yahoo search on these key words: +zoloft +"profuse sweating" Over a thousand sites came up. I use St. John's wort. It sure does work for me. Other options inlcude 5-HTP or tryptophan. Good luck and be well. Kelley"

extreme sweating zoloft side effect? I have been taking zoloft for about two weeks and i sweat like crazy. I've drank 90 ounces of water so far today so that I dont feel dehydrated and just to satisfy my dry mouth. Has anyone else experienced this?

cjcourt replied: "Yup. If it doesn't fade in a few weeks, I'd consider trying another medication, but your doctor would know best."

dcrc93 replied: "i think everyone does if it is that bad you might want to talk to your doctor"

jammyjamjamie replied: "I've been on Zoloft for a while now, and I sweat a lil bit more than usual, but I think that might be because of my anxiety aswell, and if you worry about sweating, you are just going to sweat more! I have the dry mouth problem sometimes, but if I use a particular brand of toothpaste, it goes away, weird huh."

Jess replied: "Zoloft can make you sweat more than usual and some psych meds (not sure if Zoloft is one of them) can make people more prone to becoming overheated. It's important to stay well hydrated, but you also don't want to over-do it. I know this sounds strange...but drinking too much water can be dangerous. I forget the name of what it can cause, but I've read about it several times. Babies and very young children are more susceptible to it, but it can happen to adults as well. I am not saying this will happen to you, just throwing it out there so you are aware... Since it's only been 2 weeks, there is a good chance this side effect will subside some over time."

Do you have night sweats when taking Zoloft? I have been taking Zoloft for four months now. I have drenching night sweats every night. Does anyone else on Zoloft have this side effect? Did it ever go away? I also have a low white blood cell count and just had a bone marrow biopsy done to see if we could find a reason. I am thinking of stopping the Zoloft if this is the cause of my night sweats.

Sarah replied: "I took Zoloft and it made me even more messed up then I was before taking it. I don't think I had night sweats but it made me want to cry a lot and weird stuff like that. Made me more depressed. I started taking Paxil and it didn't have any negative effects on me."

xokrisiliciousxo replied: "i take zoloft, and i thought it was just me!! wow thats a releaf to know that someone else is experencing this!"

KIM M replied: "i take zoloft and sweat at night too! but it keeps me sane so i can handle a little sweat!!"

I have been on zoloft for a while and I sweat so much everyone thinks i have had a shower, am i alone on this? I am taking 200mg of zoloft and have some side effects, dry mouth, feeling sick and sweating is one of the worst side effect I have and its becoming embarrassing. Any help would be appreciated.

Debbie K replied: "well thats is for sure a side effect you need to make an appt. with doctor and see what he says if you been on it for a long time then there something wrong if you just started to take it then it might just be normal.."

grasshopper replied: "I take Cymbalta for migraines and I have this problem of sweating and having a dry mouth too. I agree, it is embarrassing! I told my doctor and he decreased my dosage, which helped a lot. Tell your doctor about these side effect. Maybe he/she can decrease the dosage, or there might be another medicine that works just as well for you without the bad side effects."

Please share any experiences you have had going from zoloft to lexapro.? I am thinking about making the switch.. How long does it take for lexapro to kick in... I know zoloft takes about a month. What are the differences between the two drugs? I get terrible night sweats from zoloft and someone else told me lexapro was a miracle drug. I know it is different for everyone --- but would love to get some feedback. thanks.

Leslie replied: "They were REALLY bad for me. I was one of those kids under 18 that took it before they knew what it could do. I was OCD about killing myself. It was all I could ever think about, worse than before I took it. I'm sure it can be useful for some adults, but because of my experience I refuse to take and SSRIs. I would just encourage you if your feeling get worse don't ignore it, tell your prescriber!"

grace replied: "I never took Zoloft, but I do take Lexapro. When I started it I did have bad night sweats. That was my only bad side effect, and it helped my anxiety and obsessive thoughts a lot. Good luck!"

lexi m replied: "I took Lexapro as an anti-depressant for bi-polar. I could never achieve orgasm while taking it. The problem went away as soon as I stopped taking it. Also I felt nauseous the first week, but that went away. Right now I take Abilify 10 mg instead."

Andy replied: "There is a mild effect in about one to two weeks with Lexapro, however it can take 4 to 6 weeks to see the full benefits of the drug. I never took lexapro but I did get sweaty easily from the zoloft."

Danny replied: "i dint think thats the zoloft go and talk to your Dr."

Does anyone know what I can do about losing weight after Zoloft? I have been on Zoloft now for 9 months and my life is awful. I have gained weight, have excessive sweating and I could sleep 24 hours a day. I am a professional and mother of 3. I have dropped my dose from 100mg to 50mg within the last week. I want to be off the drug all together but not sure if I can. Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

lisa j replied: "First of all how old are you?I have been on Zoloft on and off for15 yrs., your symptoms do not match the side affects of this drug, it sounds more like early menopause"

Ast M replied: "do sports"

sweets replied: "Unfortuantly, weight gain is a common side effect for people on paxil, zoloft, and prozac. Thats good u went down to 50 mg, just slowly wean yourself off it , keep lowering the dose weekly, and then you may be able to take it everyother day, every 3 days, etc. til u can eventually quit them. Talk to your doctor though, he may put you on something else. I hear wellbutrin does good for weight loss. Good luck."

alspheres replied: "Tina, this is a poor forum for you to be seeking advice for such a critical health issue. I want to encourage you to make associations with regard to these issues that you can feel and develop some level of trust. I fear you end up lost with these anonymous and unprofessional responses. Be kind to yourself and seek reliable help. Does this make sense to you?"

Margie replied: "Hi, With these medications often the natural balance has tipped. I often see patients who start eating more, because they constantly feel hungry. The best way to lose the weight after medication is to adjust your eating patterns, exercise and limit alcohol intake. If this isn't helping, try seeing a dietitian for a few months to get you back on the right track. Unfortunately with all weight loss it won't happen overnight... Good luck"

Zoloft and sweats/body temperature? I recently restarted taking Zoloft 100mg, was wondering if this is a side effect to expect? When I am idle, it seems like my body temp increases and I sweat a bit.

sarah replied: "i took it for awhile, i would get "hot flashes" and then sometimes i would get a feeling like i just drank a huge cup of coffee and my heart would race a bit. give it about 2-4wks and then side effects should go away."

EJ replied: "dont worry-its a common side effect"

Stephanie replied: "it sounds like you are getting physical symptoms of anxiety...I was told by my psychiatrist that antidepressants can provoke anxiety while your body is getting used to the medicine. call a pharmacy and ask the pharmacist or a doctor"

justme replied: "Hi! I had that problem in the very beginning. I am 2 weeks and 3 days into it and it's over now. I felt horrible when I first started taking it. I had headaches, felt nauseous, I was more panicky, I couldn't eat. I knew that if I quit, I would be back to square one. No further than when I started. I am so glad I stuck it out! I started with 25 now I'm on 50 mg's. Good luck! I hope you feel better soon, Zoloft is well worth the small starting side effects in the long run."

Max replied: "I got really shaky, and nervous."

Jax replied: "well, it was made my heart beat really fast on some occasions. very weird"

Going off of Zoloft- Does it make a difference to have it out of your system? I have been on 50 mg of Zoloft for the past 3 year. About 2 weeks ago I met with my doctor and decided I want to go off of it. I'm getting what seems to be normal side effects of dizziness, sweating, ect. I have 2 questions: How long with the side effects last and why is it better overall to be off of antidepressents?

Ben S replied: "Mandy - I came off of Zoloft a few years ago. I'm guessing you are weaning off of it slowly right? Thats very important to avoid most withdrawal symptoms that can occur. your prescribing doctor can supervise your dosage reduction schedule (if not already doing so) Any side effects of withdrawal should go away after a week or less. Long-term implications from antidepressant use are unknown thats why its better not to be on them a long time. If you need to turn to a natural alternative to Zoloft (instead of going back on it) check out a good natural remedy. Ive sourced a review site of natural remedies below. Good luck Mandy! - Ben"

casinoreverend replied: "These answers are amazing! I wont try to sell you a product, TRUST me if the amazing acai berry and herbal remedies would effectively treat the symptoms of depression the FDA would have their grubby lil hands all over it, and push it down our throats! The important part if half-life, zoloft like many other SSRi's lasts a while in your bloodstream, so it will take a while to "wear off" once you stop taking the pills. More importantly is the weaning off process, so you dont experience the typical withdrawal (which is alot like the flu symptoms)..I am sure this would subside in a couple weeks. You can combat these ill-effects by establishing an routine of healthy lifestyle choices especially nutrition and exercise!"

Zoloft, how long does it take to start working? Also, i think i am having side effects. i have diarrhea, nervousness, upset stomach, sweating. started taking zoloft 3 weeks ago starting with a half a pill as dr prescribed now i am taking a whole pill. what i want to know will all these symptoms i am having will they go away in time?

andrew p replied: "it takes 4 to 6 weeks and You Will feel much better"

Claudia replied: "the symptoms should stop but you should speak to your dr any way... it normally takes anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months to start working"

Sarah G replied: "This is something you really want to talk about with your doctor. Hopefully, you have a psychiatrist or psychologist and aren't just getting these from a medical doctor. Therapy is really an important part of treating depression. I can tell you that it may take a month or longer before you really feel the positive effects. If you're having diarrhea or sweating from the meds, you're supposed to contact your doctor immediately. Mild nausea and nervousness are more normal, mild side effects. You really need to call your dr's office right away, or go in on Monday, and talk about these side effects if you still have diarrhea and sweating. This is important, Zoloft is pretty safe, but it can be dangerous in some situations. You shouldn't wait for them to go away unless your doctor tells you it's okay. DO NOT just stop taking the Zoloft without consulting with your doctor. This can be very dangerous, depending on your body and your dose. See a doctor, okay?"

Andy replied: "Zoloft can take from 4 to 8 weeks to begin working."
