I ordered Prevacid online from a Canadian pharmacy site, i received it today and the pill is white and red.? Which i am not use of because the regular prevacid is pink and purple. Do any of you know of the generic prevacid and the color it should be? I just want to make sure i'm taking what i'm suppose too. Prevacid for heartburn, this is the first time i order online without a prescription, thought it would be easier this way rather. But i don't want to take something that isn't what it really is.....Any advice would be appreciated.

Noor M replied: "The generic name for Prevacid is Lansoprazole. The reason the pill is white and red is because it is made by a different manufacturer. It probably also goes by a different brand name or something that may sound similar to the US brand name due to patent laws etc.. Make sure the label on the package says "Lansoprazole" next to whichever brand name is on the package. Also, who is the manufacturer on the label? Read it and do a online search on the drug company and you will have your answer. I think you should be relatively safe if it says Lansoprazole on the box/bottle/label. Hope this helps you a bit."

Dan replied: "Have you tried Prilosec OTC? It's very similar to Prevacid. You can get it anywhere, you can trust that it's undergone FDA approval, and it just might be cheaper than getting something shipped from Canada."

When is prevacid going to be generic? prevacid is a drug used for gerd

generalbs replied: "since odumma took ofc never go buy some tums"

mnvikes replied: "probably not for awhile, but Protonix and Prilosec are already generic and statistically theyre about as good"

Texas Ted replied: "depends on which country. in the US I think it has a few more years to go, but you can buy the generic online and have it mailed to you. take a look at Low-Cost-Rx.com under prevacid. by the way the generic name is Lansoprazole"

generic version of prevacid? stomache medicine

Tina W replied: "You couls try Prilosec, it is available over the counter. However, there is a prescription Prilosec as well, but that one is a higher dose. Ask you physician if it is ok for you to take two of the OTC pills to equal the strength of the prescription one. Don't do this without getting advice from your physician, but for most people it is ok. Good Luck and feel better!"

what is a good heartburn medication i get get in a generic form? I used to take prevacid for my heartburn a while ago then I stopped taking it when my heartburn went away but now it is getting bad again. My presription copay went up to $50 dollars for brand name medications. What is something good I can take that comes in a generic form?

grrluknow replied: "Try sucking on hard candy or chewing gum after you eat. Give natural methods a chance before you resort to more medication."

Kythrol replied: "Pepcid works well. Gavascon is awesome, but you know what works the best for me, and it is the cheapest by far is sodium bicarbonate. "baking soda" about 1/4 teaspoon in a 1/2 cup water, mix until clear and slam it down, chase with more water. Works wonders."

superyduperymommy replied: "prilosec OTC is about 20 bucks a box, sometimes 15 if you catch it on sale. one pill a day, and no more heartburn!"

dstanley66 replied: "prilosec works good, it's like $28.00 for 48 pills or u can buy cheaper boxes of it"

Good Deeds replied: "when does this heart burn occur? Try changing your diet stay away from foods high in acid like tomatoes, drink milk and eat yogurt. Relax as stress doesn't help either."

Cathy F replied: "There is Zantac and Tagamet which come in store brands generic forms. We find Tagamet before you eat or immediately after works pretty good."

Generic zoloft (sertraline)? I take 150 mgs. of sertraline daily. This requires me to take one pill, then split another. It seems like the split pill gets lodged in my throat then causes severe heartburn....which I shouldn't have in the first place because I take prevacid daily. It also makes my neck feel weird, like stiff and sore... Anyone else experience this? How does it affect you?

Megan M replied: "the pill getting stuck and your sore neck most likely have nothing to do with each other. try taking your pills mixed with food. like applesauce, pudding, yogurt."

jambsamm replied: "I have to split pills too. Drink milk with it and get a good pill cutter so you can have a nice even edge and not jaggedy."

Greg P replied: "Have you talked to your doctor about adjusting your dose? They make a pill splitting tool too. Also, ask your doctor about tums."

katie b replied: "yea i have had the problem to,,,im on zoloft but on others meds i would not drink enough right after to get the pill down so my neck would kill"

Hope replied: "I have had severe problems with food getting stuck in my throat. And, I take a broken tablet each day too. But, it has been a long time since my pills have gotten stuck. If you continue to have problems: Slice the pill in 1/2 again to make it smaller. Ask your pharmacist for suggestions Make your family Dr. aware of your throat problem"

I have a problem? i am just getting over a sinus infection/virus today. I am on Zithromax, generic name is zithromayacin. There's just one problem. I have GERD and i need to take a prevacid every night for it. However, i can't take antacids with the Zithro. What do i do? This is a real dilema, someone please help?

caffeine addict replied: "If it's too late to call your doctor, try calling the pharmacy. The pharmacist can answer MANY of these questions, and they have drug interaction information on their computers. BTW Prevacid is a proton pump inhibitor."

desperate replied: "Did your Dr. tell you that you could not take the Prevacid? If not, then give the Dr. a call and ask them if it is ok to take the Prevacid. If it is not safe, then your Dr. knows your medical history and therefore should be able to give you an answer to what else you might can take."

Terri P replied: "I too suffer from GERD and have faced this. What i have done is just, for the time, eat rather bland, carb-type meals. Also, and trust me, this is not counter-productive...a good idea is to also go to a health store...vitamins or whatnot...and get some "Pro-biotics"...they will also help your digestive system with the "good" flora and not have you churn up the bad stuff so much. Make sure you eat alot of foods with less acid to it. Good luck!"

Jan F replied: "CHECK WITH YOUR PHARMACIST OR YOUR DOCTOR!! NOW!!!"

Phil Connors replied: "Well, Zithro is used for treating a suspected bacterial infection and is a pretty potent drug. You should only need to take it for 3 - 5 days. The caution with GERD treatment is to stay away from Aluminum- and magnesium-containing antacids because they reduce the peak serum level of Zithro. Check with your Pharmacist for a recomendation of what to take while on the Zithro. Note: stay away from Mylanta and Malox and things like that."
