What's causing my muscle pain and joint aches? Hi, I have not realized when this pain started but it hasn't been around forever. I think it has started within the last like 3 maybe even 4 months approx but that's just a guess I'm not really sure. Ok so I'm 20yr female postpartum 5 months and have been having strong muscle and joint pains and aches all over the body. I am currently on 3 different medications: 1.) prozac "antidepressant" side effects can cause joint pain & muscle spasms. Medication #2.) Methyldopa "lowers high blood pressure" side effects can cause muscle and joint pain. Medication #3.) depo-provera injection "contraception injection" side effects can cause muscle & joint pain. I know it is quite obvious that the reasons I'm having these symptoms may very well be from all of these meds but I guess im being concerned because these aches happen most of the time and i keep thinking the worst like i have a serious disease or something...do you think it could be anything serious? Please help! PS I don't have any STD's/STI's so they can't be the cause just in case you guys might think that. thanks
Is anybody there? lol please answer me! It's so hard to get people to answer on here.
Big L 266 replied: "I would suggest you need an appointment with a GP again with a view to eliminate the causes of your pain. If as you say all these drugs cause these dreadful symptoms, perhaps a different approach for depression, high blood pressure and contraception should be sought.
If not, is there a possibility you have the onset of arthritis? Some forms of arthritis cause both joint and muscle pain. I firmly believe you need to see your GP asap though. It sounds like some of these pills are causing your unncessary suffering.
All the best and a big cyberhug from me!"
alice f replied: "Well, first off , I would look at the drug side effects. Three drugs that can cause muscle and joint pain should cetainly be evaluated and perhaps changed since there are so many drugs out there. The biggy I would avoid is not go on to something like arthritis or another diagnosis that would need ANOTHER drug to treat and possibly complicate the situation futher. Please note, I have had trouble with a heart drug and asked my primary doctor several times if the problem could be the drug which happened to be a beta blocker. He adamately said it was not the drug and to keep taking it. I went to the ER with swelling of my face and neck and voice changes. Serious airway swelling symptoms. The ER also said it was an allergy and we likely would never know what caused it. After the forth time I was sent to an allergist who sent me directly to an eye doctor who said I had angio edema or swelling behind my eye. The allergist then said I was allergic to beta blockers and stopped my drug. The point is neither my primary care nor the ER doctors listened to my concerns that the only thing new to me was this drug I was taking. They ignored this. Only after numerous appointments I got lucky to find a doctor who identified the problem.
Any muscle cramping or all over type muscle pain may be low potassium so a simple blood test can pick that up. Often blood pressure medications that have a diruretic effect may deplete your body of potassium. I looked up methyidopa and you may be more likely to have weight gain with this drug from sodium retention and water retention. so not likely a potassium problem.
Anemias or low blood counts can cause joint and muscle pain so a CBC or complete blood count would identify this. A CBC with Diff counts is recommended when taking methyldopa.
You are 20 years old probably healthy. I'd simply ask to try a different drug to see if the joint and muscle pain improves. I definately would be firm in getting the symptoms evaluated. I would not be shy about asking what you can do about the muscle and joint pain and be proactive and ask for different medications until you feel well.
Having a baby is such a joyful though exausting experience. I hope you can find an answer to relieve your pain so you are not robbed of this special joy in your life.
Cyholesterol drugs gave me joint pains. My NEW doctor said it depletes the Co Enzime 10 in your body. I take CQ 10..200mg daily and it helps. For a healthy 20 year old I wouldn't recommend this type of intrevention."
Withdrawal from Prozac or original problem? 4 months ago, I went cold turkey off prozac. I was on 80 mg. daily, and Valium prn for combined depression and panic disorder. Circumstances prohibited me from re-newing scripts and following with a Doctor during the cold turkey phase. I didn't feel like I was experiencing withdrawal until about a month ago. My symptoms are, crying at the drop of a hat, increased anxiety, inability to concentrate, insomnia, muscle and joint pain. All of which I have read can be withdrawal effects from stopping prozac suddenly. I have been on Prozac for 20 years. I'm also experiencing weight gain, and a horrible metalic taste in my mouth. Am I experiencing delayed withdrawal or a return of the original condition of Depression and Anxiety disorder?
Crystal replied: "It's most likely just the fact that you have depression and anxiety disorder. If you didn't get withdrawal symptoms earlier on, you most likely aren't getting them now. (Although it still is a possibility.) Medication is only a temporary fix for mental illnesses, and if you rely on them for a long time, your body sometimes stops making the chemicals it needs completely. So it could be that. Just because you took meds for 20 years doesn't mean that you're depression/ anxiety disorder has gone away. It just means that the medication was working. So your body's probably going back to the way it was before the meds.
It probably wasn't a good idea to quit cold turkey. It can severely damage your body. Try taking a smaller dose than you normally have and each week bringing it down a few mgs until you dont need it anymore. But I deffinately do not not not not not not not recomend doing that again. It can be very harmful.
But overall /ask your doctor/. Because it could be something much more serious than a mental illness. My old friend thought she had depression and other various psychological problems but she went to her doctor and found out that she actually had a benign brain tumor."
Fibromyalgia and Prozac? I have been taking Prozac for almost a month without any side effects (except sleepiness), but in the last week, I've been feeling really lousy. I have fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and several other medical issues that make me feel lousy most of the time; but this is new. I thought, at first, I was coming down with a cold or the flu. I've been very dragged out, having chills (especially in the evening), and my joint pain is much worse. I read online that it can cause pain and chills, but I've never known anyone that had those symptoms from Prozac. Has anyone else had these kind of symptoms, or do you think, it could be something to do with my medical issues? If it is the Prozac, is there anything to do to avoid the side effects?
I have an appointment with the prescribing doctor, but I would love to find out before hand what I'm dealing with. It makes waiting easier, and it makes it easier to talk with my doctor if I know what I might have to expect.
kmax27 replied: "I'm onprozac and the doctor is questioning Fibro. But I have never had any of the side effects you are experiencing. But then again everyone handles meds a little differently."

I currently take a high strength dose of evening Primrose, a pregnacare vitamin as we are trying for a baby.? I am having alot of joint pain so have just bought some cod liver oil tablets does anybody know if this will be safe to take these all together. I am also on 20mg per day of Fluoxetine (Prozac).
reaggie replied: "Prozac is not safe during pregnancy. Talk to your doctor immediately about it. Don't know about the other stuff. Ask any pharmacist."
Any woman experiencing severe PMS symptoms? How about Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder? PMDD is a severe, disabling form of PMS. In PMDD, the main symptoms are mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, tension, and persistent anger or irritability. These severe symptoms lead to problems with relationships and carrying out normal activities. Women with PMDD usually also have physical symptoms, such as headache, joint and muscle pain, lack of energy, bloating and breast tenderness. The symptoms occur during the two weeks before her period and go away when bleeding begins.
For me, two–three weeks a month everyday, for the last nine months, I've been suffering from PMS symptoms consisting of forehead headaches, body pain, sensitivity to touch, nausea and motion sickness. I’m 32. I think it’s hormonal. I would like to know of any herbal remedies that anyone has. I currently take Evening Primrose and I’m going to try Kava. I tried Prozac, but it made me feel worse. Your personal story and ideas to ease suffering would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Thank you ladies for giving me some advice, I really appriciate it. I have taken Midol and Pamprin, but my symptoms are pretty severe. Thanks for the help.
kisstar21 replied: "Acupuncture. I swear it. My insurance only covers acupuncture treatment for pain, so they wouldn't treat my PMS anymore. I'm taking wellbutrin now and its ok actually. But, the acupuncture was the best for PMS and regulating a perfect 28 day cycle."
sweetgreenapples replied: "Have you tried simple otc meds like Midol or Premsyn? They are very helpful. I was also diagnosed with PMDD. Also, make sure you're eating a very nutritious diet. Almonds are also VERY helpful around that time of the month. I have tried almonds and could feel the difference immediately."
swbiblio replied: "The website below has some great info about PMS. They list thirteen common symptoms of PMS, and I routinely get about eleven of them. Some months are more severe than others, but I don't think my symptoms are unusually severe. My biggest problems are irritability and anxiety/sadness. I take Vitex (Chastetree Berry) and that helps immensely. You can get it at GNC or drugstore.com (I prefer Nature's Way brand). You have to take it all the time, not just during PMS, and it takes a few months to kick in. Once it does, though, it's could make a big difference in your symptoms."

But when i get high i feel happy, but im misrable. What has anyone been depressed and could help me? Thank you if you could!
Myhealth H replied: "What are the values and inconsistencies in patients who are depressed? A group of investigators of the University of Jena has attempted to identify these aspects in the May issue of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics. In this study, the Authors used the Intrapersonal Conflict Test to assess cognitive inconsistencies in goals or values.

<3 replied: "Depression is not an easy thing to overcome by yourself. I waited too long and ended up in the hospital twice. You should really seek medical help because it really does help. Even if you don't want to take meds you can always go to counseling. You really can't beat depression without some help."
sweet dreams replied: "Depression can be a tough thing to beat, but it is possible. I do agree in unusually severe cases, medicine may be required. However, if you are suffering the depression blues due to the economy, job loss, family problems etc, you can easily improve your mood and outlook on life without turning to chemical substances.
Temporary depression is much easier to control than an on going chemical imbalance within the brain. Temporary depression can be managed through diet, excersize, and keeping oneself busy with activities and friends. A person is more likely to become depressed when they allow themselves to focus on what is wrong in their lives instead of focusing on what is right.
In addition, many people may not realize that if you drink large amounts of caffiene it can actually work in reverse and make you depressed. Yes, caffiene is a stimulant in small doses. In high doses caffiene can actually drain you of energy and throw your whole nervous system out of wack. Caffiene is even worse when combined with high doses of sugar. Try to stay away from soda and large amounts of coffee and tea.
Depression is a really hard thing to overcome, because you may feel like you just don't have the energy to get up and get on the road to feeling better. Just remember, the first few days are the hardest. If you can jump that hurdle, you're home free.
Light therapy is considered one of the most effective treatments for depression. We often become depressed in the winter due to lack of sufficient sunlight. Make an effort to spend some time outside each day. If it is too cold, make an attempt to keep your curtains wide open.
Start with music. This are great if you just don't have the motivation to get up off the couch; it is a very passive method of treatment for depression. Choose upbeat music, and hopefully, the chemical in your brain called dopamine will hopefully encourage you to get up and dance. And you should - you have every reason to be happy.
Try art. You don't have to be a Picasso or Van Gogh. In a low point in my life, I chose my favorite famous painting and replicated it. It was somehow very therapeutic to recreationally do something that our forefathers did to survive. Buy paints (or crayons, whatever you want) and have fun.
Get outside. There's something about nature that can set your body back to the way it should feel. Take a hike, go camping, go swimming in a lake, look for nice rocks at the beach, or just listen to the waves crash. Whatever gives you peace, do it.
Enlist friends to join you in some of these activities. Studies have shown that people with more people to talk to are more likely to beat depression, or less likely to suffer from it in the first place."
ilikerihanna52 replied: "If you are normal otherwise, try to wake up early in the morning like 4 or 5 am, exercise, stretch, do some breathing exercises. Go for a morning walk. When I exercise I feel good about myself. This kind of thing happens when we think a lot of stuff, and nothing works out. Don't think much and don't waste time on things u feel are useless and wasting your time. And at the end, just fuuck the world, don't care about who says what. You can be whatever you want to be."
Only 23 and very sick. No one can figure it out. What is wrong with me? very underweight female. 23. born almost 4 months premature. was healthy until the age of 17 when i developed these symptoms:
extreme fatigue, diagnosis of gallbladder disease (+removal of gallbladder). developed moderate depression (being treated successfully with zoloft. have also been on lexapro, celexa, prozac. all worked but side effects intolerable.), developed very painful joint pain in hips and down legs. (arthritis test negative). have daily headaches on the top of my skull. tested positive for COPD (have never smoked and have no history in the family). developed anxiety. developed unexplained tachycardia (being treated with atenolol.), developed rash on stomach which has been present for several years on and off. developed extremely painful menstrual cramps (periods have been stopped entirely by birth control medicine - nuva ring). Have developed melanoma in weird places not exposed to the sun and have not ever tanned or been out in the sun much. No scan ever performed. Spots seem to pop up overnight and when biopsy is done they have been melanoma cells. Each has been removed, with the last not being able to get clear margins. Have to be watched every few months to see if more pigmentation shows up.
Generally do not feel "well." Not terrible, but not well. Am VERY tired all the time.
Family History: Grandmother and Mother: prolapse mitral valve. Treated with Atenolol. Both had dysthimia as well. Treated successfully with Lexapro. Both had rare cancers. Mother had extremely rare form of lymphoma, one of 3 in the US at the time. Grandmother had bone cancer.
Fraternal Grandmother: drug induced lupus. Bladder cancer. thryoid disease, goiter removed.
Fraternal Grandfather: Lung Cancer. Diabetes.
Father: IBS. Allergies. Hay fever.
Sister: High testosterone levels (unexplained.) Weird rash on arms and face - mystery to doctors.
Great Aunt: very very rare form of Leukemia developed in her late 60's.
What is WRONG with me?!
Is this all stress/anxiety? I am 15 years old 153 pounds 5' 81/2"my CBC was normal my mono test was negative my thyroid test was normal and my strep test was negative the doctor couldn't see anything wrong with me after i told him my throat hurt i got headaches and my chest hurt. he prescribed prozac for depression and anxiety because i have a lot of stress in my life. but i forgot to tell him some symptoms and im worried that he might have found something wrong had i told him these.
What i told him: headache, lots of stress in my life, loss of appetite throat hurt but not when swallowing, chest pain (vague)
What I wish i had told him: joint pain sometimes, pain in and under rib cages, feeling of throat soreness when you cough for a very long time yet i have no cough, mucus build up in back of throat/spitting mucus out almost constantly, that im worried its sinusitis or maybe something else physical.
could it still just be anxiety/stress? if it was sinusitus would he notice by looking at my eyes/nose/ears? if there is any other possibility of what is wrong with me what could it be? is excess mucus and what i feel that i forgot to tell him still be a part of anxiety/stress? Help Please!!
my back hurts really badly now too and the back of my neck has been hurting too
i also have gas somewhat and my stomach is like gurgling
Annabelle replied: "Excess mucous isn't related to stress and anxiety. If you had something serious, your blood test and other tests would have indicated it...so I think you should relax that it ISN'T SERIOUS. You can get a sore throat from too much mucous, especially if you have a postnasal drip. Mucous is somewhat caustic and can irritate your throat. It can also irritate your stomach and headaches can be upsetting to your stomach too. If you had a sinus infection, you would be blowing out lots of green mucous. You probably do suffer from sinusitis. You probably should inquire about some Flonase and an antihistamine like Allegra to dry things up. I am not sure about the joint pain or rib pain, but if it is NOT constant, that is good. If it is once in awhile then I doubt it is a serious condition. Your headaches could be caused by the sinusitis and/or the anxiety. Hopefully the Prozac will help in this area. If you feel you need to see your doctor again then you should just call and go in for another appointment and talk to him about the sinuses."
bobby0512 replied: "What you are describing, back pain, gas, headache is exactly what I went through.
I had overwhelming anxiety. It turned out to be a chemical they put in food called sucralose. And it is in a lot of stuff. From fitness water to tomato sauce.
Sucralose is what Splenda is. Sadly, the package doesn't have to say Splenda or diet to have sucralose in it. You have to read labels.
Sucralose is poison. It ruined five years of my life. I had a laundry list of medical problems while taking it, including overwhelming anxiety, depression, mood swings, insomnia, gastrointestinal issues and more.
Go ahead, google: anxiety splenda or anxiety sucralose or insomnia splenda or insomnia sucralose
The slogan, "Made from sugar..." is very misleading. Splenda might be made from sugar, but it is far from sugar. The resulting chemical is an organochloride (chlorocarbon). Organochlorides are typically poisons.
carbon monoxide - made from oxygen so its like a breath of fresh air"

Help with a health issue.? I am 40 and have been on 20 mg of Prozac for one year. I recently tapered off the medication due to side effects. Since then I have felt VERY tired, bloated, fatiqued, lots of joint pain and am gaining weight. I went for some blood tests because I felt so bad and they showed a elevated sed rate. I also am testing for Thyroid but those tests aren't in yet. When you start and stop a medication can it make you feel this way or do I have another problem? I also am going back to my gyno because my pap was adnormal. Not sure if this is all related or not. Any information would be helpful! Thanks!
cecil0986 replied: "of course they are related. getting off any regimin is going to turn you upside down. no worries love."

busybee replied: "Yes, that's normal. If you have thyroid disorders increase you iodine intake and aet a lot more fruits with anti oxidants like blueberriers and stuff. The abnormal pap could be from many things like low CBC count to an STD so dont sweat it untill you get the results"
