Can taking both Crestor and Lexapro cause memory loss, forgetfulness, or brief confusion? Both dosages are only 10mg, one time, daily.
one is for cholesterol, one is an anti depressant.
comebackkidxxx replied: "they should not do that to you.
you do not need to be taking multiple medications for your depression. you need to go back to your doctor and talk to him about switching to one medication. you are having a bad interaction of those two together."
Gard23 replied: "Have a read of Lexapro drug information sheet(s), and you will see various terms covering your symptoms... "Frequent: appetite increased, lethargy, irritability, concentration impaired. Infrequent: jitteriness, panic reaction, agitation, apathy, forgetfulness, depression aggravated, nervousness, restlessness aggravated, suicide attempt, amnesia, anxiety attack, bruxism, carbohydrate craving, confusion, depersonalization, disorientation, emotional lability, feeling unreal, tremulousness nervous, crying abnormal, depression, excitability, auditory hallucination, suicidal tendency."
Information on the dose may be found on p.2 of the linked Lexapro document.
Crestor sheet also linked, for your info. Any google search on 'statins' and 'confusion' may bring up helpful information.
If you lipid levels rose after the prescription of an antidepressant - then also note the Lexapro's possible side-effect of hypercholesterolemia."
My mom has been taking Lexapro for depression but since she's been on it she has had memory loss.? Can Lexapro cause memory loss?
Paul A replied: "You didn't say how long she's been on it, or what dose. A lot depends on that...
When I first started taking Lexapro, I felt like I was "in a fog" for a couple weeks. And, they had me taking it in the morning - that made me drowsy to the point I was afraid to drive.
I've found that taking Lexapro at dinner time is the best for me - I sleep better at night, and I'm more awake and alert the next day.
If you have more questions, send me a message or an email, I'll do my best to help..."
Can lexapro affect memory? I am 17 and I take lexapro for my depression. but I have been having more and more problems with memory. I can't remember who I talked to, where I put stuff, and where I went 1 or 2 days later.
Paul A replied: "I've not heard of any problems like that with Lexapro, it would be good if you had said how long you've been taking it, and what dose.
If you have drowsiness, you might talk with your doctor about adding Wellbutrin SR, and drop your Lexapro by a dose."
Does welbutrin and Lexapro effect memory? since I started taking them. I can't remember dates or numbers to save my life. I even mis dialed my home phone. I think it all started when I started that combo but I can't be sure.
Kelly Q replied: "How long have you been on them? In my experience, antidepressants can make you feel a little...muddled, but it usually goes away after your body has adjusted to the meds. If it's been going on for a while, or it's really bugging you, I'd call your doctor and ask them to lower the dosage."
Ameerah replied: "My husband has been on wellbutrin for a while now. Every time he forgets something he says its the medicine. He swears it makes him more forgetful than he usually is!"
George P replied: "Some people do complain about having difficulty concentrating. Usually these symptoms abate once the therapeutic levels are reached. These symptoms are minor when compared to the original problem. Best wishes"
bsbfan95 replied: "I have been on both of these, and YES. Totally. A lot of those meds can do that. My suggestion would be to lower the dosages. Go see your dr. and get them lowered. I couldn't do simple subtraction or dial a phone correctly. I was stupid and I couldn't take it anymore.
We lowered it, and I was all better. No more stupid that I ever was.
I think all anti-depressant help suppress memory in general. But if it's to the point as bad as you say, please lower it!"
adobeprincess replied: "I am on both of those medications and I had trouble with my memory before and I do not have trouble with it now. Depression was affecting my memory not the medications. When the depression got better, so did my memory. Hope this helps. In either case talk to your psychiatrist."
Stella G replied: "It've happened the same w/ me. I need to take notes all the time."
Lexapro and Memory Problems? I've been on Lexapro (20 MG) for a little over a year now. It quickly fixed my depression/anxiety problems, and I feel okay mood-wise. Although for the first few months, the libido change (MUCH lower) and anorgasmia had been hard to deal with in the begining, but seems to be better.
The only thing is that I've noticed over the last several months an effect that is rather disturbing and I don't know if it's due to lexapro? Kind of an inability to think straight sometimes, or loss of short term memory. Just an overall feeling of almost a blank mind. (IE I used to write a lot, but since taking lexapro, if I pick up a notebook, i've got nothing).
Is it feasible that my brain-dead feelings are attributed to Lexapro?
I'm afraid to go off of it because of my previous moods before Lexapro (suicidal ideation, etc).
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Ellie replied: "My Mom has been taking lexapro for about 6 or 7 months now. I have noticed that she seems to forget things a lot. She has been asking me questions more than once and sometimes when I have a conversation with her she just forgets what we were talking about. This has been bothering me too because I am supposed to start taking Lexapro with in the next couple of days. Also, it's scary because I'm a journalism Major (you said you're having problems writing.) But I too have been experiencing suicidal thoughts and my doctor told me lexapro will help. I'll talk to my mom and my doctor and see what they have to say. Maybe it's just the high levels of serotonin that lexapro produces. Sorry, I guess I wasn't much help but I have noticed memory loss in my mom also, so you're not alone. Best wishes!"
I_Love_McRedneck replied: "Yeah, that's why I stopped taking it. The funny thing, like you said, that didn't start until after I'd been taking it for quite a few months already.
I'm on Cymbalta now - it worked within an hour of taking the first pill. I've had no side effects at all with it and feel much better.
Does the Lexapro make you have this uncontrollable urge to swing your legs? It did that to me, I didn't even realize it until after I'd stopped taking it."
Scooter replied: "Please talk to your Doctor about this. It is possible you might need to change your dosage or change to another medication. Yes lexapro will lessen your libido. Wellbutrion (?)
is a good possibility as it doesn't have the libito side effect. As far as the blank mind thing goes... I have that all the time...
I think!
Best of Luck!!!"
Melissa replied: "There are plenty of other meds you can try. Lexapro made me hallucinate, suicidal and I couldn't remember anything from one minute to the next. If someone interrupted me speaking I wouldn't have been able to remember what I was going to say after they finished. Talk to your psychiatrist about trying something else."
killer kitty replied: "Could be a side effect from lexapro my mom was on that and I noticed it cause her alot of neurological problems. I had to go to for help. Their are people their who have had terrible side effects while on lexapro , paxil , prozac etc. They maybe able to help you too. I hope it helps good luck. Forgot to mention do not do not cold turkey off med very very dangerous try the website for help"
Seedna replied: "I took it last year for about 3 months, did not notice any change in my anxiety attacks and yes I did experience a weird loss of memory.
It was very short term memory, like looking for your sunglasses when they are on your head. My husband noticed sometimes I would just be kinda, well brain dead sometimes, with no reaction to conversation and generally not wanting to talk about anything like I used to. So no! You are not alone.
It made me sick in the mornings sometimes as well. After that I tried Paxil and nothing changed, if anything it made my attacks worse. Still trying to find that wonder drug, but exercise seems to be the only cure at this point."
Does anybody know if Lexapro can cause memory loss ? The reason why I ask is that while I was taking it there are several days I do not remeber doing things like going out to dinner and a Christmas program. Also I dont remember small things, but since I stopped taking I'm back to normal and can remember ever detail about everything.
elle55407 replied: "I've been taking it, too. But I can't remember if it causes memory loss."
jayman replied: "Many SSRI's such as Lexapro have a wide range of side effects and for most people it slows they down. I tool lex for a couple weeks and stopped b/c i felt like a zombie"

Citalopram and other SSRIs have been shown to cause sexual side effects in some patients, both males and females. Although usually reversible, these sexual side effects can sometimes last for months. Jan C replied: "You have answered your own question. Yes it does in some people. Many drugs have this side affect. Good luck, talk with your Dr,"
the_devils_big_sis replied: "I started "Googling" this question as to whether Lexapro was in fact responsible, what i found was quite disturbing in my view , although the company that makes it , assured that memory loss occured only when an overdose was taken , i found many a forum mentioning stories from people that experienced like you , a "temporary outage" or loss of memory from time to time . In my view i would discuss this further with my specialist /doctor and possibly change meds.
I hope this info helps.

Taking Lexapro. Memory and cognitivty have greatly improved!? I'm in college right now and I have been on Lexapro since Wednesday (making it 5 days today). Before, I used to have to review my notes over and over to retain just some of the information. Now, I'm going through things once or twice and remembering so much! I'm learning things so much faster now and I feel like I'm sleeping so much better.
It's weird, though. The first say I took the medication I slept okay, but I woke up the next day and I felt as if the back of my brain was on fire. Haven't felt that since, but it was a bit scary.
Well, my question is: has anyone experienced this kind of improvement in such a short period of time? I know everyone is different, but I was told 2-3 weeks to notice change.
Also, will only continue to experience improvement in my mental functions? Thanks.
Yeah. I thought that all of this may have just been in my head, but I do know that my mood has improved. I don't know. I think people experience change at different rates. I KNOW that things have started changing.
No headaches. I feel something different. Like stretching, expanding sensation, but no headaches. No pain except for that first day.
B replied: "Thats weird....When I was taking Lexapro it made me extremely forgetful.
Ok and I just read that you have only been taking it 5 days. It takes about a month for it to build in your system so that you may start to benefit....
I think maybe you are overthinking all of this. You have only been taking it 5 days....at the most you would be getting slight headaches."
Jade Leprechaun replied: "no i have not noticed this it does make me calmer and makes me run to bathroom"
MISS-MARY replied: "Everyone reacts differently to all medications. This is a good thing for you. I had the same thing happen when I was going through health and work problems. I took Zoloft and it made me able to concentrate and get things done in an organized manner. After a couple of months I had to go off it because of other side effects and the crisis had passed with my job. So, enjoy and hopefully it will continue to make you feel and work better."
pbustama8825 replied: "Yes, me too. I have taken Lexapro for about a period of two years. I did see that type of improvement as well. I think it has do with a focusing factor. Lexapro was the only anti-depressant that had no adverse side effects for me and was fairly inexpensive. Some don't understand. My Dr. told me it was an anti-depressive. I stated that I was really wasn't depressed but experiencing an 80 mile an hour mess (anxiety). Lexapro controls that just the same. It all has to do with the chemical imbalance in the brain. Warning: Do not stop taking the drug without your physicians supervision! I did this several times. After stopping you are not aware that you still need it. Outsiders can tell you and will see a change in behavior. They will see the changes and you will not recognize them. Also, if you stop cold turkey you will definitely experience "crash and burn". Your Dr. has to whein you from it gradually. I have not taken it for about 1 1/2 yrs but due to recent dilemmas, I am considering to start again.....Good Luck and don't stop"
have you ever had any issues with memory loss while taking lexapro? I'm currently only on 10 mg of lexapro a day and it has been my miracle drug! Its the only drug that has ever worked so well and I feel so much better when i'm taking it - and honestly fear ever having to go off of it because of what i'm like when i don't take my medicine.
The problem is, that for about the past year (i've been on it for almost 2) i've been having some real issues with my short-term memory, my concentration, and believe it or not, my spelling. it's just like i don't feel as smart as i used to, or as sharp, and i'm having alot of trouble perfoming at my job. has anyone else had this problem? I'm only 24 so there's no way its alzheimers, and i'm not particularly stressed out.
Like i said - its my miracle drug, i don't want to ever stop taking it, but this is getting rediculous.
i've actually been on wellbutrin..and paxil, and effexor, and luvox, and prozac, and zoloft, and celexa, and god knows what else.
currrlyn replied: "My friend takes Lexapro and experienced the same problems with it. I'm not sure if/how she fixed the issue because she moved months ago and I haven't seen her, but you aren't alone!"
winged♫♫♫spirit replied: "You need to be re-evaluated. This is serious. Don't delay.
I'm older so I've seen a number of people have related experiences.
Prozac was the "miracle drug" for many people who eventually had to quit taking it. You'll find that the book "Listening to Prozac" has some information that will be useful for you. "Lexapro" is an SSRI, like Prozac, and also has its limits.
You are not the same person today as you were before you started taking Lexapro - if only becuase you've been taking it for many months.
Don't stop taking Lexapro abruptly - you can get some wierd effects, that vary greatly between individuals. One of these is a sense of electrical shocks going through parts of your body, as well as digestive disturbances. It is also possible to have digestive problems as a side effect of the drug itself - or dizziness.
Look up "excessive serotonin" in google - there are several National Institute of Health studies dating back at least to 1996 that relate excess serotinin release in the brain to memory lapses -
SSRIs, including Lexapro, increase the level of Seratonin in your brain, ostensibly by "blocking its re-uptake". This has been found to be only a partial explanation, but drug companies are only interested in seeing the publication of studies that will further the cause of selling more of their products.
Nonetheless, Lexapro raises the level of seratonin in the brain and beyond a certain point this will have negative effects. The effects vary depending upon the individual's brain chemistry.
I know for a fact that for some people, 5 mg is an effective theraputic dose, so "effective" for some that they have to be taken off of it because side effects.
What this means for you, is that one way or another, you need to be re-evaluated, preferably by an MD who works with a psychologist who can refer you to a therapist who has had sucess with patients similar to yourself.
Get professional attention as soon as possible: don't insist on continued use of a drug that is no longer working for you."
sherry b replied: "All those drugs "work" for a while, then stop. Try Welbutrin, it has a very small stimulant effect so you don't get "numbed" out and can actually concentrate better.
Most people who think they are depressed really need a lot of excersice and to stay away from sugar and eat a healthy diet."
How to discontinue lexapro and side effects question? Hello everyone
I've been taking Lexapro 10mg for about 5 months and am kind of uncomfortable about the fact that I am taking this med.
I wanted to ask if this medicine effects your memory in any way. Has anyone heard of this side effect of Lexapro?
Secondly, because of the fact that my doctor got angry at me after I asked if I could quit, I thought i would give the internet community a try.
How does one quit Lexapro healthily? Please share some of your experiences.
It would be great help if the community can answer these 2 questions.
Thank you.
aprilangel4 replied: "I just came off mine cold turkey. I had No side effects, but Im not saying u wont. Good Luck"
piepiepie replied: "If your doctor got angry, you should get a new doctor or wean yourself off the medication or quit right away and simply stop seeing him.
I don't know what the half life of lexapro is, but I was taking prozac and remeron and just quit my medications 'cold turkey' I experienced headaches, but I don't know whether or not it was due to the meds, because I get headaches anyways. Perhaps just go down to what dosage you were first prescribed for awhile and then quit. Personally, I'd just stop taking them tommorow.
Your doctor cannot force you to take medication without a court order and that's very difficult for him to get and impossible if you are not a danger to yourself or others. You could be a dellusional schizophrenic, but if you're not a danger, you have rights. Part of your rights as a possibly mentally ill person is the right to refuse treatment and/or medication. Chances are if you call and cancel your next appointment or don't even bother to show up, nothing will happen, so let the poor bastard get angry. He just wants your money anyways."
Sparkles replied: "All medications have side effects of some kind. Go to webmd.com and pull up Lexapro and it will give you a side effects list. I am coming off of it right now because of weight gain, but it is being replaced at the same time with Cymbalta. When you are coming off of a medication like this without an alternate medication, you take a huge chance of having greater anxiety or depression. If your Doctor is angry go to another one and explain you history and concerns about this. He may put you on another med. that better suits your needs. Don't give up because you have to find a med that fits your needs and body. Good Luck."
Danny replied: "Hi. compared to other SSRI's this drug seems to give the most problems coming off it. Take a look how this this person (source) did it.
If you decide to stop -tell your doctor that you ARE going to quit and want he's/her help to do this. To avoid any complications the doctor is required to help you stop or refer you to someone who will. By not doing this your doctor is putting you in serious danger.
-Tell your doctor what you want and ASK if he will help you stop."
chascel replied: "I've been taking 20mg Lexapro for over a year and personally have noticed problems with my memory. I have to write down lists and reminders constantly and even forget that I've written the reminders sometimes! It's crazy. I also feel like I'm in a "fog", everything seems to be dulled and not as clear as it once was. (If that makes sense)
As for your doctor getting mad at you for wanting to stop taking your Lexapro, I would try to change doctors if it's possible. He/she shouldn't react that way. Your doctor should be there for you and help inform you of other treatment options available. Lexapro is only one of several SSRI medications out there. Chances are though, if you are uncomfortable taking Lexapro, you will not be comfortable taking one of the others. Been there, done that.
I did try to stop taking the Lexapro and switch to Wellbutrin a couple months ago, but experienced terrible "electric shocks" in my head, numbness in my tongue and lip, dizziness and nightmares. I was also VERY irritable and had bouts of crying for no reason. I did some research and found that some of these were common symptoms of SSRI discontuation syndrome.
I elected to go back onto the Lexapro because the symptoms were completely unbearable. If you decide to stop taking your medication, tapering the dosage is considered safer than just quitting "cold turkey", you are less likely to experience side effects this way.
You can read about SSRI discontuation syndrome, its symtoms, prevention and treatment here: ."
