Anyone have information about Effexor and false positive for PCP on drug test? Need info for defense please.? My uncle has tested positive twice on an onsite drug test for PCP. He is on Effexor and Byetta. I think the Byetta has caused the Effexor level to increase and contributes to the problem. ANY information is welcome. I found one small article that said Effexor can cause False Positive for PCP but that's it. This needs to be known and recognized before lives are ruined.

micg replied: "You will have to get documentation from a medical doctor that the meds can possibly cause this false positive on a drug test. Start with the doc that prescribes the med."

Blur replied: "There are a ton of web sites out there with this information. Good luck."

Scott H replied: "It is important to confirm a positive screening test with the more specific confirmatory test. The initial toxicology screening is usually done by immunoassay, which can cause false positives. This false positive can be resolved by running a more specific test to confirm or rule out the presence of a substance, in this case PCP. These confirmatory test are usually done using a method called mass spectrometry. Any organization that is running toxicology screening tests should be aware of the need for confirmatory testing. If not, your uncle should discuss this with his primary care provider."

effexor information..? I have a friend who is on 200mg of effexor a day. is this a large dose?

Jody replied: "No, 150mg three times a day is considered a fairly large dose. 600mg a day is a large dose. Hope this helps."

Kelly replied: "I'd call it medium. The lowest possible is 37.5, then 75, then 150. Unless they changed the size of the pills since I was on it, you can't even get 200. 300 is more likely. But it has been several years, maybe they did change it."

tanzinite_gem replied: "I'm on 300mg"

I was wondering if anyone has any information about longterm side effects of taking Effexor XR.? I have been taking Effexor XR 150mg daily for years now and it has really helped with my depression and anxiety. I was feeling really good and tried to ween myself off of it but I couldn't handle the horrible side effects and downward spiral I was heading towards. I feel that this will be a lifelong medication that I will need to take......anyone with information would be greatly appreciated. I find that if I miss a dose even if it's 12hrs later than the day before I took it I have a fuzzy feeling, like a trailing effect with my vision and my day is shot until the next day. I was also wondering if this is the cause of my weight gain and low sex drive.

shit stirrer replied: "yeah. it fucks up your head. you're fuckt"

hotvw1914cc replied: "side effects high blood pressure kidney an liver damage memory loss have a Dr. wean you slowly only way to get off it safely."

knicname replied: "try googling "Medline Plus" >>drugs &supplements. Effexor is notorious for having withdrawal symptoms. You might speak with your psycho-pharmacologist re: weaning you off very slowly..37.5mg @ a time and adding something similar like Cymbalta (also a SNRI)...or Wellbutrin XL works well as an add on. Anti-depressants can cause blurred vision but not just for a day. Since you need the meds get your eyes checked & you might have to get glasses, but it's worth your mental health. Effexor can also cause weight gain or at least increased appetite. Do you also have anxiety because the fuzzy feeling sounds like anxiety? Good luck Source: Mental Health Worker"

Katrina Sucks! replied: "OMG, I have the same problem! I've been on 150mg of Effexor Xr for 2 years now. I was prescribed for my panic disorder and depression. It works wonders, but seems like I won't be able to get off. If a miss a dose, I'm sick and my brain is totally fuzzy. Also I gained alot of weight! I have always been self concscious about my weight, but with this I've blown up. I really contemplate, do I want to be fat and happy or skinny and depressed! I don't know what to do"

How long does the severe depression of Effexor withdrawal last? After a 2 week tapering off program (by my doctor) I was able to stop taking Effexor. I have been off of it fully for about 10 days now. I have taken antidepressants for 8 years and am finally taking nothing. While I am glad to be finished with them, the depression is killing me. I hope that this is just a withdrawal effect that is going to get better. Has anyone else gone through this. If so, how long does it last? Thanks so much for any information!

Simon W replied: "Effexor is one of the most difficult drugs to come off, things will slowly get better."

River Euphrates replied: "You need to be careful. Anti-depressant withdrawals are very dangerous. If you have thoughts about hurting yourself - you need to talk to your doctor right away. Most of the things you are depressed about are probably not as bad as you think - try to focus on the good things in your life."

sparrow replied: "It's incredibly difficult to come off of these kinds of drugs. Your poor brain is going to suck up the serotonin for quite awhile. Remember when you first started taking it, it took awhile to kick in- about a month. Make sure you are eating/sleeping right and drinking lots of water. Exercise to keep your metabolism moving. Take vit B,C, D with calcium citrate. And prop up your outlook- remember, it might seem hard, but being happy is a choice you make. Good luck!"

Does Pristiq offer any advantages over Effexor XR? It just seems like Wyeth's response to Effexor XR going generic. I can't find any information on how Pristiq is superior to Effexor XR.

McCall Evans replied: "This is a very good question! I would say from my study in Abnormal Psychology that neither one holds supreme preference among the psychological and pharmacology communities at this time. They are both extremely simular in fuction. I think that you might also be on track with your idea on how it is Wyeth's response to Effexor XR going generic. The pharmaceutical industry is one of the wealthiest and most lucrative industry feilds in the world! It might be a case of "Keeping up with the Joneses"!"

Looking for info on Effexor or Sonata - currently taking Adderall? I was recently prescribed Effexor and Sonata for depression and trouble sleeping along with Niravam for infrequent anxiety attacks (have taken this before). I have been taking Adderall everyday for a year now (40 mg) The only medicines I plan to take daily are Effexor and Adderall, leaving the other two as needed. I am mainly wondering what to expect in terms of side effects once I start taking Effexor. I was not given very much information from the psychiatrist, so any helpful info or feedback on either of the medications would be appreciated. Thanks!

angeldancer68 replied: "the best thing to do is look up the medications online on webmd.com or any of the other medical web sites. that's the best thing to tell what the medicine is you are taking and what it might do also you can look the medicines up on google too. best of luck."

Dani replied: "I've known people that have taken effexor, and I've heard only good things from it. Just know with effexor it take 4-8 weeks to fully work, along with therapy. It works best when taken as it was prescribed. The most common side effects include; Nausea Dizziness Sleepiness Abnormal ejaculation Sweating Dry mouth Gas Abnormal vision Nervousness Insomnia Loss of appetite Constipation Confusion/agitation Tremor Yawning Palpitation Most of these are rare, but if you expierience any of these side effects, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible."

garfield replied: "effexor relay works well the side effects are the same as the other meds. dry mouth ,constipation and a little dizzy when getting up to fast but this only lasts for a very short time. everyone is different so ask a pharmacist"

bundygrrrl replied: "i was taking effexor a few years ago, also primarily for anxiety, and mild depression. the main complaint i had was the constipation.... make sure you have exceeding amounts of fibre.... every other 'side effect' was mild enough not to cause any problems. the other issue i had was weight, but then everyone tells me that is not caused by the tablets, but maybe its a water retention thing... i actually changed to lexapro. again this was for combination depression anxiety, and i found it had the least amount of side effects, neither weight or constipation was an issue. good luck. anyway, atleast once your on them, you reduce your attacks, so there is always that pro to taking any of the drugs."

Can Effexor XR and Hydroxyzine be taken together? I was prescribed Hydroxyzine back in December to help subside the itching of psoriasis so I could sleep at night. About 2 months ago my Doctor but me on Effexor XR. When I had the Effexor XR prescription filled the Pharmacy didn't tell me to stop using the Hydroxyzine (I always have my prescriptions filled at the same Pharmacy). So I was just wondering if they can be taken together. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

eve replied: "I know this is not the answer to your question but I just had to give you this information because of my personal experience with Effexor. I was taking it for a few years (I was on antidepressants for a total of 7 years and on Effexor for about 3) and was very satisfied with the results -- helped a lot with anxiety and somewhat with depression. However, I started to have several weird side-effects, none of which the medical community attributed to Effexor but, I was worried so I decided to come off the Effexor. I hope you already have information on how difficult it can be to come off of Effexor. I really felt very fragile on an emotional level for several months. I was angry and sad and irritable and emotionally vulnerable. My family was very supportive but it was definitely hard on them. I thank God for my therapist and her wisdom and kindness without which I don't see how I could have made it through. I have now been completely off of Effexor since October. It took about 8 months to completely wean myself from the stuff -- with no help from anyone as far as how to really do it. Just be careful and be kind to yourself and find support before you attempt to stop taking the stuff."

Have you tried the anti-depressant Effexor? How did it work out? I keep hearing horror stories of massive weight gain and lethargic behavior. My doctor has given it to me as he felt the Cetaloprahm (celexa) isn't working as well as it used to. I would like to get some information on it from those who have experienced it first hand. Personally I feel college is a bit more stressful this semester so there is going to be added stress.

Blaze_23 replied: "I have used it for a year. I have had absolutely no lethargy with it at all. I have lost 7 lbs, have had no weight gain. Keep in mind though that ALL anti depressants can cause weight gain. It has worked really well for me better than the lexapro I was on."

mickey replied: "I take effexor xr, and have had no problems with it. It has been the best anti depressant that has helped me. I have tried a few other's and they did nothing for me. I have not gained any weight from it, and I have no side effects either. Good luck with the medicine effexor."

Pico replied: "EH, I took it for 2 1/2 years (300mg) and it relieved about half my depression. In the end it was't worth it. it just stopped working one day. it took 8-9 weeks to get off of it. Only side effect, NO sex drive"
