My eyes are so dry-headaches, nausea? my eyes are soo dry. theyve been like this for a while. i keep buying expensive eye drops from my eye doctor but it only relieves pain for like 10 mins. I take ibuprofen everyday of my life and im sick of it. i have horrible headaches and burning sensations in my eyes. what should i do?

leaping_walrus replied: "Get off yahoo and see a doctor."

william replied: "Sounds like you need a good eye exam by an eye doctor who will do more than just a quicky exam so you can solve these severe symptoms. The headaches may be migraine, but without the correct diagnoses you won't know or get the correct treatment. You need treatment for dry eyes such as restasis or punctal plugs and then finally determine what is causing the eyes to burn and treat that."

mom@40 replied: "I don't think taking a medicine just to cover the pain is the answer. I agree with the person who suggested switching eye doctors. Seek out an excellent ophthalmologist in your area..someone who specializes in eye diseases. You may have dry eyes, but there is generally an underlying condition causing the other symptoms. You could have an inflammation within the eye called iritis which causes headaches, light sensitivity, and a grainy, painful feeling in the eye. You could have swelling in the optic nerve, or corneal erosions which also cause severe pain, headaches and nausea. I'm not sure what your doctor prescribed but you may need an anti-inflammatory eye drop. Don't wait..there is help available and most places will see you within a few days of calling in. Good luck."

AZHWAR replied: "please take tears natural eye drops 4 times a day with ciprofloxin 6 times a day. if it does not subsidise, pls contact a good doctor and check up for prospective glaucoma or any other serious problem in the eyes. Eyes are very sensitive and do not prolong with medicines across the counter"

Dry Socket - anything I can do to ease pain? Rear molar extracted on Tuesday. Was still in increasing pain till Thursday so went back and was told I have an infection (not dry socket). She pushed in packing like small fibres (?) (taste of clove) not a standard dressing and gave me Flagyl. Intending going back at 7am tomorrow as pain is unbearable, radiating up into eye and ear. No pain meds (co codamol, ibuprofen) are working. I read on the internet to make up a solution of boiled water, asprin and salt, soak cotton with it and pack the hole. Can I do this or will it affect the clot (if there is one - hole is black, but is this the fibres or a clot. No white or bone visible) Is there anything else I can do apart from cutting my own head off. Thanks Thanks all. This is making me ill - and I thought the pain from the tooth was bad. Will call the dental office and try the salt water and hydrogen peroxide mouthwash.

starynight39 replied: "call your doctor or surgeon whoever did your extraction. Call the office and they will give you a number for an oncall doctor that works in the same office. Have your doctor paged and tell them that you need pain medication asap. that you are in extreme pain. Since you are going in tomorrow they ill definatly call in something good....like vicodin or something along those lines. good luck"

presleygirl replied: "I would say take Aleve, how about going to the emer. room at the hosp. They might give you codene for pain ?"

Free Medical Help replied: "Yes there is. First you mix a table spoon of table salt with about a mouthful of water, then you swish it across the sore area in your mouth for 2 minutes. It tastes awful, but it will help clear the membrane over your socket so it can heal. Then you take in a couple ounces of hydrogen peroxide and hold it as long as you can, spit it out and you should feel some relief, but you have to do this every morning and evening for at least 3-4 days for a lasting effect. In the meantime, you need to take aspirin or Tylenol to relieve it while the other method works."

Sally C replied: "I've had a dry socket and also worked as a dental assistant. The best thing to do is not disturb the packing the dentist used or replace it with the internet version. Call her emergency # and get some stronger pain meds. It's a long time till Tuesday morning."

Chloe replied: "Had one. There is nothing that can cut the pain except a head removal I swear. I would call the dentist on the phone, they have answering services just like doctors. Let her know what is going on. The office will be closed Monday also so you might as well do it today. There is always a dentist on call for this type stuff. They may want to meet you at the office and check it out. There is no reason to go through this much pain. I've had 3 c-sections and the dry socket was the worse. That's when I found out about them being on call on weekends. That's why they get the big bucks."

Dry, itchy skin on my face after wisdom teeth extraction? I have a mild rash too, probably from itching it though. I don't itch it anymore though, I put lotion and it helps me feel better and stop itching it, but doesn't seem to be making it better. It's all over my face except for my cheeks and the bags under my eyes. But it is on my nose and next to it. It's been a week since surgery. I stopped taking Penicillin when I ran out on the 4th day. I also drank 3 cups of pineapple juice that day, thinking it would help the swelling. I did kinda notice the skin was dry, and even was itching it a tiny bit before, but it definitely got the worse the next day (the 5th day) and that's when I noticed it. I stopped taking Vicodin after the first day and stopped taking Ibuprofen today. The Dr said it couldn't be the Vicodin or Ibuprofen. He said it wasnt an allergic reaction to Penicillin cuz I would have mild rashes all over my body, and also that it doesn't cause dry skin. I have been staying hydrated of course. What could the cause be and how do I fix it?

Cookie Preston replied: "I think too that an allergic reaction to the meds or the pineapple juice would probably show up all over your body and not just on your face. But if you still have a rash and itching you could try Benedryl (active diphenamine hydrate ) or some other antihistamine to see if that helps. Some people get dry peeling skin over an area that was swollen after dental surgery. Also I know it sounds crazy but some people develop a reaction just to the stress of surgery. Think about anything else that has changed in the last few days that would cause a contact dermatitis, such as a new detergent on your pillows or new shampoo. If it has stopped itching and seems to be getting better instead of worse then I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just give it time. If your symptoms increase then you should to see an allergy specialist."

alianna_hodiya replied: "It sounds like you had an allergic reaction. You do need to be seen by the dr. expalin to him/gher wha tyhappened and such."

Child scratched my eye over a month ago- went to doctor but it does not feel normal yet... please read on!? My 4 month old managed to scratch my eye with her little fingernail after bath time about 6 or 7 weeks ago. It hurt really bad and I ended up going into the quick care about an hour after it happened. The doctor prescribed liquid antibiotic drops as well as liquid ibuprofen drops to use for 7 days. I did that and everything seemed to go back to normal. The scratch on my eye was pretty large- the doctor said it started where the color of the eye is and went out all the way into the white. The way I was looking when my daughter scratched it, managed to get the scratch almost 3 cm long. I was looking towards the inner corner of my eye so the scratch wraps around my eye ball to that when I'm looking straight on the scratch in in my eye socket. (Hope all that makes sense!) Anyway, I'm able to move my eye without feeling pain, and I don't have any vision issues. I do have issues when my eyes dry out, that spot where the scratch happened really bothers me- it's very uncomfortable and I've caught myself in the mornings before I'm fully awake I'm rubbing my eyes, and the one that was scratched is extremely painful for quite a bit after it's been rubbed. My question is, is that normal? Should I be feeling that pain/discomfort when the injured eye dries out or gets rubbed?

isaulte replied: "Yes, it is normal. My eye was very uncomfortable for many weeks after a similar injury, and was highly sensitive for 2-3 years after (i.e. if I rubbed it the wrong way, I was in a lot of pain). Just give it time, you did the right thing in getting help quickly - I went to the chemist myself and bought drops which made it worse, and still ended up at the hospital!!!"

Please tell me, am I coming down with the Flu? I am begging for a diagnosis. Right now, I have to study for 2 exams and a quiz that are coming up very soon on Monday and I need all the strength I need! Ok these are my symptoms as I woke up: -dry mouth, sore throat (not too sore) -soreness at the back of nasal passage w/ accumulation of mucus -congestion that causes me to breathe out of my mouth -sinus pressure @ back of eyes -Bodily fatigue (All my bones feel weak and kind of hurts to stand) So here are my symptoms and I hope I can get an educated answer from anybody that has knowledge on what I'm coming down with. What would be your remedy to treat this? The college medical clinic sucks and they don't have appointments available until tomorrow :( These are the drugs I have: -Loratadine 10mg -Psuedoephedrine 60 mg -Tylenol w/ Codeine 300mg -Chlorpheniramine 4mg -Penicillin 500mg -Ibuprofen 200mg -Advil Liqui-gels 200mg -tylenol extra-strength 500mg -Dayquil liquicaps -Sudafed PE I wish I had Guafenpherin

Laurie B replied: "I am no doctor, only an LPN. It sounds like a sinus infection. Also, the fact that it correlates to college stress makes sense because your immune system goes down during stressful times. My advice from your list of meds is dayquil. For this evening as you try to study I would suggest airborne to boost your immune system, maybe some Vitamin C. If Sudafed helps you, perhaps that would give you some short-term relief. Good Luck with the cold and the class."

fuzzykitty replied: "Well you certainly have an arsenal of meds. More then enough to choke a horse, I suggest a couple of Advil's and maybe some hot tea. Not a med. person myself."

Derail replied: "Certainly sounds like a virus. May be too early to know if it's the flu, maybe a cold. The virus found a good home in you. The environment was perfect. A fever serves to change that environment in to one not so favorable, and to accelerate metabolism, which produces more white blood cells to combat the virus. But, it all takes time. You're gonna feel crappy. I'm being honest here and not condescending. The clinic probably won't be able to do anything. I know cause I've gone through the same situation in the past. With the test coming up, don't get too heavy on the meds. They can effect your mental comprehension skills."

Nesha replied: "Do you have any type of diet sodas? That could be the problem. There was an article that came out recently stating that something in the soda caused symptoms like your describing. If you do, stop them and see if you feel better."

Samarcanda replied: "Hi, if you are drinking/eating diet foods containing ASPARTAME, give them up, the stuff is a real killer, it gives brain cancer. Look it up on the net if you don't believe me: TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW, TOO."

lee92 replied: "You could have a ganglion in your wrist. I have one and its really painful when I use my wrist. I wear a brace and it's bearable. Best to go to to the doctors to make sure though because I'm not a doctor."

grammarqueen2007 replied: "Have you been sitting and using a computer a lot lately? Your hand pain could be caused by mouse-use and typing. Your back pain could be coming from sitting a lot. And your eye dryness could be coming from staring at a computer screen for long periods of time. Good luck."

hob replied: "i think it is just a cold but im not entirely sure try to check your symptoms. it could be the aches and pains flu though i get that sometimes."

Sharon W replied: "Sounds like your sinuses may be draining and causing you a bunch of problems in your upper respiratory tract. You may try to take some over the counter sinus medications and drink PLENTY of fluids. Rest as much as possible. Sitting in some steam, such as from a hot shower running while you sit in a closed bathroom outside the shower may help to break up the congestion. The fluids will help more than the meds to thin your secretions and flush your body of the toxins. That will be a good quick fix until you can get to the doctor. Just study in short increments so you don't get worn out."

Do I have Migraines or something else? So I've started working for a Doctor who says my symptoms sound like cluster headaches. She says she doesn't think it's Migraine because I don't get an aura like other Migraine sufferers. It starts out like a tension headache. I feel a tightness in the base of my skull. I feel a dull ache in my head and it gradually grows stronger and stronger. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes to become a full blown headache, sometimes it's a few hours. As the pain grows, I become more sensitive to light and noise. I can't think straight and I feel nauseous. The roof of my mouth grows numb along with my nose and I start to slur my words. It hurts to move, talk, look around. I've found that Excedrin Migraine works, but Ibuprofen makes it worse. Sometimes putting heat over my eyes works. I'm talking hot enough to barely stand. If I don't take any Excedrin, I'll get to a point where I'm throwing up and crying from the pain. I've looked at Cluster Headache symptoms and I don't get a runny nose, red eyes, pain in my eyes, or droopy eyelid. The pain I get feels like my whole brain hurts. I've kept a health journal to try to find out what causes these headaches. I write down everything from what food I eat to the time I woke up that day, how the weather is outside, and where I am on my menstrual cycle. So far I have yet to find a connection. Sometimes I'll eat a food and get a headache a few hours later but if I eat the same food either the next day or a month later, I don't get a headache. Sometimes they hit while I'm on my period, a few days after, a few days before, so it's not my menstrual cycle. They've hit on rainy days, cold days, hot days, dry days, so it's not the weather. They've hit on days where I've had 2 hours of sleep and on days where I've had 10 hours of sleep. I've had them on days where I wake up a 6am and days where I've woken up at noon so it's not a matter of how much sleep I'm getting. They don't hit on a schedule. Sometimes I'll have two in one week and sometimes I won't have one for a few months. My mother gets the same kind of symptoms where it feels like a tension headache then builds up to Migraine symptoms. I have two sisters who also suffer the same symptoms. My father doesn't get them. I just don't know what to do!!! Does this sound like a Migraine or what?

Eno replied: "Sounds like migraine."

What DOESN'T Vicodin do to you? "Side effects Side effects for Vicodin include an allergic reaction, seizures, clammy skin, severe weakness, dizziness, hyperventilation, unconsciousness, jaundice (yellowing of eyes or skin), unusual fatigue, bleeding, bruising, stomach pain, constipation, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, muscle twitches, sweating, hot flashes, itching, tinnitus, hearing loss, decreased urination, and decreased sex drive. Vicodin (in terms of hydrocodone) also has depressant effects on the central nervous system. However, some of the less mundane effects can be desirable effects that are sought after by some. Those effects include euphoria and drowsiness, as well as slowing of the pulse. Vicodin may also be a cause of stomach ulcers, although this is assumed to be due to the addition of other non-narcotic analgesics to hydrocodone preparations (e.g., aspirin, and ibuprofen). Paracetamol does not cause ulcers, unlike NSAIDS." at the end it says it even causes AIDS. it doesn't feel bad! i'm on this stuff now from dentist

zacs babygrl replied: "what it doesnt do is help!"

SLedge#89 replied: "gives guys a bonur"

Necronot replied: "Well, it doesn't actually get you addicted and turn you into a bitter man that does cool tricks with his cane and has a good sense of humor."

Lizard replied: "How could it cause AIDS, that's ridiculous!"

elise_flowerchild replied: "I was prescribed vicodin for dental work done last week. I've been taking extra strength tylonel instead because vicodin makes me feel like utter crap. Stay away from this hell pill."

Lax4life replied: "Unless vicodin has the HIV virus in it it will not cause AIDS"

Az R replied: "Basically when they write those PI sheets up they have to include everything that happened to anyone when they were testing the drug, even if it's blatantly ridiculous. That's why 99% of drugs contain "Flu" or "Viral infection" as a possible side effect. Most of those listed are exceedingly, horribly rare. The main problems people have with opiates like vicodin is that they get constipated and they get nauseous."

CJ replied: "AZ R is right in that most of the extreme side effects listed side effects are very rare. It is reported that about 49% of people using Vicodin experience side effects (mainly constipation, dry mouth, dizziness and fatigue), but only about 6% significant side-effects on Vicodin. I wouldn't worry about it to much. Just don't drive while on it (atleast til you know how it affects you)."

This cold feels awful, any advice? So this is a pretty dumb question, you guys probably have no better suggestions than I do. But it's about quarter to 5 in the morning and I feel awful. I have a fever(which has been kept down with Ibuprofen and acetaminophen) My throat has that scratchy soreness My throat also feels bruised My entire body aches I feel sorta nauseous, but manageable My nose was running constantly until I took half of a Dristain, now it's still running but won't come out My sinuses hurt My ears feel like they are about to explode, and I've had a bit of tinnitus (ringing) I have a cough which is starting to make my chest hurt My lymph nodes hurt too (although they usually do) Strange mucus is coming from my eyes. A little while ago it was like I was crying the stuff now they feel dry and kind of burn Under my nose is so dry and red, I don't even want to blow my nose. I put vaseline on about 6 or 7 hours ago but it didn't really help My mouth feels sorta sticky (which is probably because of the mucous) Just now my left eye is starting to hurt This question is going to seem really stupid when I'm not sick anymore, but I don't care. I just feel like crap and don't want too! started with a sore throat on Tuesday. It was just like a regular cold Wednesday morning and just keeps getting worse.

Tom M replied: "sounds like swine flu to me. just go to doctors before it gets too bad and get a tammy flu."

chocolate cake is yummy replied: "few people i know have the same thing they went to the dr and the dr gave them antibiotics.........until you can get to the dr, drink alot of water, gargle with warm salt water (1 cup warm water 1/2 tsp salt) keep taking the pain relievers, do you have any honey in the house if some eat a teaspoon of it right off the spoon....... go to one of those medi-centers if you have one in your area.......if you truly feel that sick, just go to the hospital er, better safe then sorry and they can treat you right on the spot i hope you feel better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

itchyweed replied: "need to see doctor sounds like H1N1. It has really spread like wildfire lately. I have 3 family members in 3 different states get it about the same time and they haven't seen each other in about 8 years. Strep throat is also a accompanied with this flu and must be treated as soon as possible because strep throat untreated can cause serious and sometimes chronic heart damage. So my aunt who has a master's in nursing says that if you get a sore throat and a high fever...you have strep. And the whole gunk coming out of your eye is not good either"
