The clear white stuff coming through your body (as you describe it,) the weird dreams, nausea/vomitting, the eyes twitching and the mind functioning while you are tired are all side effects/withdrawal effects of Effexor XR. If your doctor took you off the medication without taking you down on the medication over a period of several days (or a couple weeks) than s/he made a very poor professional choice.
Even the manufacturer recommends:
"Discontinuation of Treatment with Effexor XR
Discontinuation symptoms have been systematically evaluated in patients taking venlafaxine, to include prospective analyses of clinical trials in Generalized Anxiety Disorder and retrospective surveys of trials in major depressive disorder, and Social Anxiety Disorder. Abrupt discontinuation or dose reduction of venlafaxine at various doses has been found to be associated with the appearance of new symptoms, the frequency of which increased with increased dose level and with longer duration of treatment. Reported symptoms include agitation, anorexia, anxiety, confusion, impaired coordination and balance, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, dysphoric mood, fasciculation, fatigue, headaches, hypomania, insomnia, nausea, nervousness, nightmares, sensory disturbances (including shock-like electrical sensations), somnolence, sweating, tremor, vertigo, and vomiting.
During marketing of Effexor XR, other SNRIs (Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors), and SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors), there have been spontaneous reports of adverse events occurring upon discontinuation of these drugs, particularly when abrupt, including the following: dysphoric mood, irritability, agitation, dizziness, sensory disturbances (e.g. paresthesias such as electric shock sensations), anxiety, confusion, headache, lethargy, emotional lability, insomnia, hypomania, tinnitus, and seizures. While these events are generally self-limiting, there have been reports of serious discontinuation symptoms.
Patients should be monitored for these symptoms when discontinuing treatment with Effexor XR. A gradual reduction in the dose rather than abrupt cessation is recommended whenever possible. If intolerable symptoms occur following a decrease in the dose or upon discontinuation of treatment, then resuming the previously prescribed dose may be considered. Subsequently, the physician may continue decreasing the dose but at a more gradual rate (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION).
Discontinuing Effexor XR
Symptoms associated with discontinuation of Effexor XR, other SNRIs, and SSRIs, have been reported (see PRECAUTIONS). Patients should be monitored for these symptoms when discontinuing treatment. A gradual reduction in the dose rather than abrupt cessation is recommended whenever possible. If intolerable symptoms occur following a decrease in the dose or upon discontinuation of treatment, then resuming the previously prescribed dose may be considered. Subsequently, the physician may continue decreasing the dose but at a more gradual rate. In clinical trials with Effexor XR, tapering was achieved by reducing the daily dose by 75 mg at 1 week intervals. Individualization of tapering may be necessary."
(The above is from the insert that would come with the medication.)
So, your doctor should have taken you off slowly from the Effexor while at the same time putting you on Remeron and building it up in your system. This way, by the time the Effexor was out of your system the Remeron would have been ready to do the job. Now, you are in the place where the Effexor is ending but the Remeron has to build up to a therapeutic level for it to be worthwhile. Not the best choice.
Hope things improve -- if not call your doc and ask about going back on the Effexor so you can be properly weaned off it."
Mental Health / Disability? When I was 16 I was Diagnosed with Bipolar & Agoraphobia and spent some time in a mental hospital for an suicide attempt.
I've been on many medications: Zoloft, Paxil CR, Effexor XR, Remeron, Lexapro (those are just the one's I can recall)
This was all four years ago, I am now 20 and now that I am an adult I have found it nearly impossible to be in a working environment with my mental illness. I have tried, I did get a job for a short period of time but had to stop myself because I couldn't handle it.
I was curious if I could be put on disability for my illness? And if so how would I go about doing that? Since my illness was when I was a minor must I go see a doctor as an adult and get his backing or what?
