If I take tramadol every day for pain and I take a oxycodone will I test positve for oxycodone on a pee test? I take tramadol 2 times a day for pain in my hands. If I try a non prescribed oxycodone to see if theres any differance will I test positive on a pee test for oxycodone

Alec replied: "if your talkin about a doctors test no u would not be positive for it becuz u r not overdosin (if ur not overdosin its just lik a prescription) if its for sports whic i have taken they just put a reader which tells them them a number which tests if ur pees hydrated enough so it wont read any type of drugs ur in good standin"

doyleandmaria replied: "Of course you will! It is also illegal to take a non-prescribed narcotic and is illegal for someone to give it to you! Is it worth the risk? No! The most responsible thing to do is go to your doctor and tell him the Ultram isn't working. He can prescribe something stronger."

david replied: "^ Person above me: I'm sorry, but that is just 100% BS. No it will not show up. Drug tests test for morphine ONLY when they test for 'opiate'. Because most opiates (like heroin) convert into morphine in the body, so they along with morphine show up on drug tests. They cannot differentiate between different opiates. Well, they CAN, but they don't because it's expensive. You probably won't show positive for opiates AT ALL. Because, like I said, they only test for morphine, and neither tramadol nor oxycodone convert into morphine in the body."

drankurbhardwaj replied: "yes ,"

I have been taking 6 tramadol a day for a year. I just found out i am 5 weeks pregnant. Will my baby be ok? I have been on 6 tramadol a day. Dr perscribed like that for a year. I just found out i am 5 weeks pregnant. I read the reports and know that it is a class c drug and know about the possible effects to the baby. I am wondering that even though i took 6 a day for 5 weeks of my pregnancy will the baby have all or any of those problems if i stop taking it now? Anybody know?

Michelle replied: "I took tramadol and vicodin and still do, you'll be fine and your baby will be fine, don't try and stop taking them all of the sudden though because you and your baby will go through withdraws and trust me that's not fun."

Amanda replied: "A lot of women get prescribed pain meds during their pregnancy, make sure that you tell your doctor. I think 6 is a little much, but just ask your dr. If you stop now, taper off, so you don't go through withdrawals b/c you will if you don't taper off. If you do stop now more than likely your baby will be fine. Good luck"

Sonya replied: "I was taking about 4 tramadol a day when I found out I was pregnant. My doctor told me that he wasn't worried that damage had occurred, but he recommended that I not take them anymore. I had my 20 week ultrasound recently, and so far, the signs all point to a healthy pregnancy. Some pain medicines are safe. I'd talk to them about which ones are best or worse. My pediatrician prescribed me lortabs for a bad ear infection. They just gave me a lesser dose than they would have if I wasn't pregnant. I had tylenol 3 at home and asked if I could take those. He strongly urged me not to as codeine is known for being one of the riskiest of pain medicines when you're pregnant."

Suzy replied: "go back and see your doctor. i think 6 a day is alot."

How bad for you is taking tramadol and antidepressants every day? On Paxil, Wellbutrin, anti anxiety meds.

doc_holliday1863 replied: "Pick Paxil and stay with that one."

the_only_solorose replied: "CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 inhibitors: Concomitant administration of CYP2D6 and/or CYP3A4 inhibitors (See CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY—Pharmacokinetics), such as quinidine, fluoxetine, paroxetine and amitriptyline (CYP2D6 inhibitors), and ketoconazole and erythromycin (CYP3A4 inhibitors), may reduce metabolic clearance of tramadol increasing the risk for serious adverse events including seizures and serotonin syndrome. Serotonergic Drugs: There have been postmarketing reports of serotonin syndrome with use of tramadol and SSRIs/SNRIs or MAOIs and α2-adrenergic blockers. Caution is advised when ULTRAM ER is coadministered with other drugs that may affect the serotonergic neurotransmitter systems, such as SSRIs, MAOIs, triptans, linezolid (an antibiotic which is a reversible non-selective MAOI), lithium, or St. John's Wort. If concomitant treatment of ULTRAM ER with a drug affecting the serotonergic neurotransmitter system is clinically warranted, careful observation of the patient is advised, particularly during treatment initiation and dose increases (see WARNINGS – Serotonin Syndrome). Triptans: Based on the mechanism of action of tramadol and the potential for serotonin syndrome, caution is advised when ULTRAM ER is coadministered with a triptan. If concomitant treatment of ULTRAM ER with a triptan is clinically warranted, careful observation of the patient is advised, particularly during treatment initiation and dose increases (see WARNINGS - Serotonin Syndrome ). The above information and the website it came from are provided for your education. Basically, the combination you are taking is a risky one, and your doctor needs to monitor you closely."

does anyone know what the absolute maximum dose of Tramadol a person can take per day? Could seven hundred mg possibly be an ok dose? I am still in pain even at this strength but it beats the alternative! Thanks to all who responded to my former question about tramadol today:) It is so reassuring to connect with real people---- I have been scared to tell anyone what I'm dealing with.

Mandy VZ replied: "It's either 400 mgs or 800 mgs, I'm not sure which. I think 400, though. Anything above that and you're at a greater risk for seizures."

kerilynn replied: "You should only take, what it Say's on the bottle of medication... if the pain medication isn't working for you, you need to go back to the doctor and let him know...maybe there is something else he can prescribe.....good luck"

dr.kristen replied: "only take what is prescribed on the bottle. tramadol is a low dose pain medication, (the least addictive narcotic of them all) and if you have a lot of pain there are many other medications out there your doctor can put you on. you don't want to risk a seizure or other effects to your body. please call & make an appointment w/ your doctor asap!!!"

boating replied: "I think I saw your question earlier that you were concerned that you were addicted to Ultram (tramadol). That is possible infact there has been some speculation that it could possibley be changed to a controled medication. If you are still having pain after taking the reccomened dose call your Doctor. You may need to have something else for your pain. Tell your Doctor your concerns about tramadol being addictive. That way they can work with you in prescribing medication to help you."

Vicodin and tramadol in the same day? I have taken 6 vicodin in the last probably 12 hours (2 pills every 4 hours as prescribed by doc for degenrative disk disease in my back). I also have prescribed tramadol that I have yet to take. I have been on vicodin for several months now due to my back pain. Is it safe to take a tramadol today if I dont take anymore vicodin until tomorrow? Is it safe to take 1 or 2 vicodin in the AM and a 50mg tramadol in the PM? And yes I have called the on call doc....they have yet to call me back and my normal PCP is out of town. I just thought some of you might have some advice...experience. It says on the bottle...."tramadol generic for ultram 50mg". Its not ultracet. Ugh. The reason I ask this is that I know I have a physical dependance on the vicodin and I would like to lesson the amount I take. I have never had a dependane before and this sucks. My doc has not offered up any other options to me besides pain management with pain pills.

Billie77 replied: "Call your local pharmacist they will give you an answer promptly. It's much better to get a professionals answer, they know the medications intimately."

SirRob replied: "While this is NOT advise, be sure that it is plain tramadol/Ultram and not ultracet (has tylenol). Because you mentioned 50mg as opposed to 37.5mg it is likely the former. Vicodin also has acetominophen and you do NOT want to mix both meds with acetominophen/tylenol. While ultram is not classified as a true narcotic, it works similarly to vicodin. It is like chasing bad medicine with a lesser medicine. If vicodin is not quelling pain sufficently then it is unlikely tramadol will. Ask the covering doc about taking one or two aleve, an anti-inflammatory, which may be synergistic to the vicodin. Do not take with ulcer or bleeding problems though. Have you tried some simple but suprisingly effective stuff like ice or a hot bath? There is no cure (as you likely know) for DDD but cigarette smoking is a know associated factor. Chronic narcotics are a very poor choice to manage this in the LONG run. Consider PT and a TENS trial with your physician."

Wendy V replied: "The simple answer is yes you can. AS LONG AS YOU CUT BACK on the Vicodin. But be wary of withdrawl symptoms. Even mild. You can try taking the two vicodin in the morning and then the Tramadol in the afternoon. But you may find that the Tramadol will work for a while and then lessen off the effects, like you are currently finding with the other pain meds. But trying something new for your body will help the pain. If it wasn't safe to do the Doctor wouldn't have prescribed it PRN. I am not even going anywhere near the other answers as you sound like you already know what the others have said in the answers. It's not answering the question you asked!"

deltaqueen replied: "Yeah, you can, your doctor probably meant for you to in the first place. I take tramadol 50mg along with methadone 10mg, 4 times a day for DDD. You could try cutting back to 1 Vicodin every 4 hrs and take a tramadol with it. But still talk to the doc. Good Luck!!"

JackieG replied: "If you are trying to get your pain under control you are bound to form a dependence on pain meds.I have the degenerative disc disease and have graduated to percocet and oxicodone. As far as I'm concerned cotrolling my pain is moreimpotant then dependency.Tramadol inbetween doses of vicodin,do this till your gradually tapering off Vicodin,as you should never quit any prescription drugs abrubtly.I too tried Tramadol long before I started Vicodin, that too became useless. If a person is in pain all the time you have no quallity of life,so don't suffer needlessly or because your doctor wants you off the meds.Do what you think is best for you.Good Luck and God bless."

Chris S replied: "No need to call the doctor or the pharmacist. You will be ABSOLUTELY fine. No harm in it. Vicodin is a Narcotic combination medicine. It is hydrocodone mixed with tylenol. Ultram is a synethic narcotic. Which means it is chemically designed to work like a narcotic, with no actually opium in the product. You can take both and be absolutely ok. With the amount of vicodin you take a day, i just wouldn't reccomend going over 200 mg of tramadol a day! Hope this helps!"

mark g replied: "You don't need to worry! When Pain meds are taken for the correct reasons (pain) most people do not become addicted(usualy only people who are pre disposed to addiction have this problem) Your Idea of alternating meds is good for it will keep your tollerance for one or the other from going up as fast. Just be sure to take the pills exactly as directed. Your Doctor may have you "taper off" the vicodin when you no longer need it yet it is my oppinion that you will have no problems at all as long as you take the pills as directed. I was on the Fentanyl patch along with oxycodone instant release for breakthrough pain for six months and had no difficultys when I got off them (long term use DOES make your tollerance go up though) Both of these meds are MUCH stronger tha vicodin. Hope that helped you!"

How long does it take to detox from tramadol? I'm taking between 200 & 400mg per day.? Also what are the symptoms I am likely to experience? I am having insomnia, am freezing all the time, involuntary movements, and constant sneezing is this normal? Is there any way to ease these symptoms?

allaboutcats321 replied: "about one week."

dumshee replied: "Hi, Tramadol made me feel extremely "doppy" and sleepy. My coordination was extremely altered and my concentration levels were low. Also, I had some itchiness, restlessness and feeling hot and cold. Overall it is a very powerful drug and highly addictive. I would say that it usually took 2 or 3 days after I stopped taking it (between 100 and 300 mg per day) before all these effects wore off. However, do not attempt to stop suddenly without talking to your doctor because of the high risks of withdrawal symptoms, especially if you take up to 400 mg per day. Hope that helps. PS: needless to say, don't mix with alcohol and be very careful of adding any other medication."

Can you get addicted to tramadol in 4 straight days of having between 150-300 mg a day? Seem to need more for euphoric effect maybe have tolerance already

missingora replied: "You aren't physically addicted but you may be psychologically attached to the feeling it gives. But don't take it longer than you really need it for pain because later on you may really have a reason to take it and it may not work if you've built up a tolerance for it."

brittany k replied: "as long as u take it when you are directed to you shouldnt get addicted..i was taking the same thing when i cracked my wrist but i only took it when i needed...so u might try just taking it when you need it."

k can i take tramadol one day...and then lorazepam the next day? ? curious doctor forgot to inform me..have backpain..and anxiety..?

This Guy Dave replied: "yes And you can do both a the same time I do drugs so i cind of know"

peterbilt197 replied: "You should be taking both of them everyday. Tramadol ( Ultram ) is used for mild to moderate pain. The Lorazepam is a member of the valium family and is used to treat anxiety problems. If the Lorazepam makes you tired, you can take it at bedtime. It's one of those drugs that it really doesn't matter if you take it at night or in the morning. Hope this helped"

hotsunnn1 replied: "Yes, you can also take these together. You might get sleepy if taking it at the same time."

into IDEAS replied: "Well they treat two different things. Call your doctor and tell them you need help, how rude not to exlpain and I am thinking grounds for a suit. TRA - pain LRZ - anxiety You need both, how much and how often, your doctor can only tell. And I might consider replacing them because they seem ultra crappy, they have one job and they suck at that - what if you had taken some weird combination and ODed, just saying - docs a bit shady there."
