I thought I had A yeast infection then I started to see blood my md presdrbied me ciprofloxacin? and I am afriad to take it because I have vaginal itchiness still and Was wondering if that anitbotoc will make it worse because I get yeast infections form antibotics?

November replied: "Try asking a professional, a pharmacists is a good option, good free advice, and they usually have more time to answer your questions and will put your mind at rest."

Deborah M replied: "You did not say if you MD did any testing. Yeast will show up on a direct wet prep. If they did one and only saw bacteria then you need the med.s if they did one and saw yeast and a lot of bacteria then you need the meds. Cipro is used to treat urinary tract infections. Was the blood in your urine. Did they do a urine test? If so and it had bacteria in it that is why you need the Cipro. You can eat cultured yogurt to prevent yeast infection from meds. Ask your pharmacist for a over the counter product for the itch, there are several out there, be sure to tell pharmacist you are on cipro."

Mathie replied: "Did the MD know that you had thought it was a yeast infection? Bacterial infections can also cause the itch and many women with bacterial infections think it's yeast and treat it as yeast and it only gets worse. You could get a yeast infection from this but you have to treat the bacterial infection first."

How can I prevent a yeast infections when on antibiotics? I have been put on Ciprofloxacin for a Urinary Tract Infection. Whenever I am put on an antibiotic I seem to end up with a yeast infection. I'm also taking Acidophilus Probiotic Blend 3 times a day any other ideas to help me from getting one???

Rhianna_Returns replied: "Try using natural LIVE yogurt. This needs to be introduced into the vagina with a tampon or syringe(minus the needle!) The key is not the yogurt itself but the bacteria, lactobacillus acidophilus, in the yogurt. This helps the body maintain, or regain, its natural pH level and keeps yeast under control."

Dr Frank replied: "As Rhianna says the live natural yogurt must be instilled locally rather than swallowed to re-establish the normal 'friendly' vaginal flora. BTW using Ciproxin to treat a simple uncomplicated UTI is using a wrecking ball, rather than a sledgehammer, to crack a walnut. This time of prescribing is why the bacteria in the environment continue to get ahead of the antibiotics available to treat them."

what causes yellow vagina discharge other than yeast infection? i was treated with 3 type of antibiotic for my uti and yeast infection metronidazole 200mg 2 tablets 3 times Amoxicillin 500mg clavulanate 125mg 1 tablet 2 times Ciprofloxacin 500mg 1 tablet 2 times but after completing the antibiotic im still having itch and some discharge am i having a very serious problem like having any cancer in the womb or ovaries? i did a pap smear 1 yr ago and it is nomal im very worried

airbull0424 replied: "Takin' a leak? This is normal ops."

j_d_mac_vieau replied: "not to worry I have been like that for almost for ever. Every woman is must have some sort of moisture there until they reach menopause...Not to worry"

Bronwen replied: "You say that you had a UTI. Looking at the amounts of antibiotics that you took, it looks to me like they could be responsible for your yeast infection not clearing up. The vagina usually has helpful bacteria in it that control yeast infections. That's why so many women get yeast infections when they take antibiotics--it kills both the harmful bacteria and the helpful bacteria in the vagina. The imbalance allows a yeast infection to flourish. The other thing that strikes me is that it doesn't look, from what you have described, like you took a regular, full course of any one antibiotic. It's quite possible your UTI has not been cleared up, and that's what is causing the itch and discharge. It is sometimes hard to tell exactly where it is coming from. I know I took a 10-day course of Cipro (the last drug you mention) recently for a UTI, and I still ended up back in the doctor's office four days after the last dose because my infection was not cleared up. I think you may need to see your doctor again. There is always the off chance it is something more serious, like a more serious type of infection, or some other disease process, but I don't think it's likely. I think it's most likely that your UTI needs to be treated first, and completely cleared up, and then your yeast infection can be treated and cleared up. Trying to treat both at the same time sometimes just does not work. Good luck."

trushka replied: "it can also be Chlamydia. visit: for more information"

Try this replied: "it does sound like you havent had a full course of therapy for your UTI. And yes antibiotics kill both good and bad bacteria, Try taking acidophills. It is a supplement the builds up natural (good)bacteria in your body. My wife had the same problem and I recommeded it for her and she is great now. You can buy it in your local health spot. i.e. GNC"

brasil_mulher replied: "stop using, dirt panties, over and over again,if any and pardon me if am wrong, then do not use tight undies and jeans, take more yogurt, douche with a mixture of:yogurt, apple cider vinegar, diluted, and honey,,,wash ur genitals every time u pass motions or urinate, finally, avoid, casual sex if any,for too many sex, specially so,with different partners, may increase ur vaginal secretions, infections and many other problems, douche ur genitals periodically to irrigate and cleanse it,from toxins,,avoid certain "junkie"foods specially so those with high level of yeast, and practise good personal hygiene, and even if after take up all these measures u still experience problems,,u should do another PAP smear, from different source, good luck"

Victor replied: "Prevention The following are a list of things that can be done to avoid a urinary tract infection. As many people, especially women, experience recurrent infections some commonly recommended preventative measures are: * Having adequate fluid intake, especially water. * Not resisting the urge to urinate. * Taking showers, not baths, or urinating soon after taking a bath. * Practising good hygiene, including wiping from the front to the back to avoid contamination of the urinary tract by faecal pathogens. * Cleaning the urethral meatus (the opening of the urethra) after intercourse has been shown to be of some benefit; however, whether this is done with an antiseptic or a placebo ointment (an ointment containing no active ingredient) does not appear to matter.[1] * Cleaning genital areas prior to and after sexual intercourse. * For sexually active women, and to a lesser extent men, urinating within 15 minutes of sexual intercourse to allow the flow of urine to expel the bacteria before specialized extensions anchor the bacteria to the walls of the urethra. * It has been advocated that cranberry juice can decrease the incidence of UTI. A specific type of tannin found only in cranberries and blueberries prevents the adherence of certain pathogens (eg. E. coli) to the epithelium of the urinary bladder (studies referenced in External Links section) Treatment Most uncomplicated UTIs can be treated with oral antibiotics such as trimethoprim, cephalosporins, Macrodantin, or a fluoroquinolone (e.g. ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin). (Whilst co-trimoxazole was previously used (and continues to be used in the U.S.), the additional benefits of the sulphonamide gave little additional benefit compared to the trimethoprim component alone, but was responsible for its both high incidence of mild allergic reactions and rare but serious complications). If the patient has symptoms consistent with pyelonephritis, intravenous antibiotics may be indicated. Recurrent UTIs Patients with recurrent UTIs may need further investigation. This may include ultrasound scans of the kidneys and bladder or intravenous urography (X-rays of the urological system following intravenous injection of iodinated contrast material). Often long courses of low dose antibiotics are taken at night to help prevent otherwise unexplained cases of recurring cystitis. Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in both treating urinary tract infections, (sometimes along with chinese herbs with antibiotic compounds) as well as preventing new infections in chronic cases. A study published in October 2002 in the American Journal of Public Health showed that urinary tract infection occurrence was reduced by 50% for 6 months[5] . Acupuncture appears to reduce the total amount of residual urine in the bladder. If there is no response to treatments, Interstitial cystitis may be a possibility. I do have some alternative medication (nutritional supplement & therapies) may help to prevention and maintaining good health. I can recommend some if you need it. It's safe and natural. you can email me or meet up to know more. "

Will Ciprofloxacin clear up bacterial vaginosis? i went to the dr -- they said that i had traces of white blood cells in my urine. i have all the symptoms for bacterial vaginosis, and am pretty sure that's what it is, even the doctor said that was a possibility, either that or a yeast infection and i'm positive its not that because i've had those before-- however i do not want to have another internal gyn exam. will Ciprofloxacin clear up bacterial vaginosis?

A W replied: "It should but with any antibiotic and any bacterial infection, it may take more than one course of antibiotic. Cipro is a VERY strong antibiotic. Let me warn you.....have some Immodium AD and some Tums on hand. There is a GOOD chance it will tear you up inside. It is a common side effect so don't worry. I had to take it once for a UTI and I had to send my boyfriend out to Walgreen's at 3am on Thanksgiving morning for a bottle of Tums. I found out after the fact it is a side effect."

jennabee25 replied: "Ciprofloxacin will kill a bladder infection (hence the white blood cells in your urine), and will probably do the same for bacterial vaginosis. Cipro's an antibiotic and should do the job."

carobygirl replied: "You may be talking about two different infections. Urinary tract infection versus vaginal infection. What else did the doctor tell you? White blood cells can indicate urinary tract infection. Other symptoms, including itching, odor, and discharge, can indicate vaginal infection. Some symptoms may go with both. Only take the Cipro if your doctor ordered it. Don't take leftover Cipro from another illness."

doc give me 3 type of antibiotic for my UTI and Yeast infection to be taken together? metronidazole 200mg 2 tablets 3 times Amoxicillin 500mg clavulanate 125mg 1 tablet 2 times Ciprofloxacin 500mg 1 tablet 2 times can all be taken together? i keep having diaherra and feel very nausea and dizzy after taking the med even the anti nausea med cant helps should i stop the antibiotics? is taking 3 type of antibiotic too much?

Amy J replied: "Yep. They can all be taken together. Oh man, I so know how you feel. I fall victim to those stupid things all the time. It sucks. Go ahead and take them all, it will help you get over it. Do you remember what your doctor said to do? Did he tell you to take them all? Follow what he says, and if you are unsure, call the office and ask a nurse."

Dr Rossi replied: "you can take al 3 meds together. its the metronidazole that causes the side effects. BUT, if these adverse reactions persists after youve taken it till tomorrow or actually asap see the dr as you may be allergic to penicillin - the amoxycillin. he will then just change your amoxicillin to erythromycin - it will do exactly the same, just less side effects as penicillin. talk to your dr. he'll test it for you."

Christy replied: "hell yea is meant for the 3 abx being too much! metronidazole is for yeast... cipro or amox should take care of the uti, but why both? unless you're not telling us something coz i don't see y ur doc gave u 2 abx to treat the uti coz cipro and amox both works for uti. what's happening to you is that you're having side effects from the meds and yes you need to STOP them coz you don't know which meds is making u ill. before the weekend comes, call your doctor tomorrow and get it resolve. btw, don't let the receptionist give u the run around..if they do, ask for the doctor's nurse...they can help you."

tinytinker79 replied: "Call your Doctor first thing in the morning. It sounds like a reaction, but your Doctor will know for sure. I would call an all night pharmacy if you want answers tonight... Do not wait.. Call soon,,, Get Well soon...."

Mrs.Fine replied: "Take these pills with food or at least milk. It will help out with the stomach pains. Also, in the future, eat more yogurt. It keeps the yeast infections at bay. Feeling dizzy is not normal. Nausea and diarrhea are fairly common side effects of antibiotics. Don't stop taking the meds until you talk to your doc and he gives you the okay."

jennifersuem replied: "Make sure you eat yogurt and drink 100% Cranberry juice. OTHERWISE you might get another UTI."

dealerofdestruction replied: "He is giving you what is commonly called a "Prev Pac". Yes, it is a lot of medicine, and you have all the results, but EAT before you take all this medicine. Ask the doctor to give you promethizine for the nausea if it is that bad! Do not stop the diaherra with anything over the counter, Thats the bodys way of discharging all those evil germs infecting you. It also indicates that the yeast infection have travelled to your digestive tract. Have your doctor check you for Heliocobacter Pylori as this is also another indicator!!!"

Possible Infection? For a significant period of time, I've been experiencing a thick, greyish/white vaginal discharge that is NOT accompanied by any abnormal odor/irritation/itchiness. The consistency is almost of lotion, and I've also recently started to experience pain during sex. I've been treated for a yeast infection twice, and was on the antibiotic Ciprofloxacin for 5 days. None of the treatements have yielded any results. What could this possibly be? Also, I've been tested, and I have no STD's so if there is some unusual infection, it's not sexually transmitted.

MEME55 replied: "there is bactiera viginosis that is not an std, and a simple cream from the dr. can take care of this, check with the dr. to see if this might be it. Good luck"

jordan b replied: "Sounds like a yeast infection. I had the same thing. I know you've been "treated" twice, but like I said, you sound like me. If you used antifungal stuff, well, it may not have worked. I spent over $100 dollars in over th counter creams and gyzanole 1 and other prescribed creams. My body just didn't take. Then I read about boric acid. I suggest researching it giving it a try. It is working on me as we speak and I've had my infection for over a year. By the way, making your pills is much easier than how it says to. I do it by 1. Buying gelatin pills at Wal-mart- $3.00 2. Empty gelatin from capsules by pulling capsule apart. 3. Pour boric acid into pills. Don't get that stuff all over your counter. It's not good to do that."

fluconazole and ciprofloxacin? * TMI * 3 days ago I started to have this little itch down below so I had my husband go and buy some vagisil hoping that would take care of the problem used it for 2 days but all it seem to do is make it worse and started to make me burn. I don't have cottage cheesy stuff but decided to get the monistate 1 since it just seemed to itch more and burn I used that for one day and it seem to make it worse too it burned even more and now when I urinate it burned like the dickens so now im in tears went to the doctors they told me I have UTI and might have a yeast infection but couldn't tell because of the monstat 1 but would take a few clotures to see but they will give me medication for both uti and y.i. but now I am wondering since my period is a day late is and my husband and I had several times unprotected sex *if* I have become pregnant will the medications harm the baby (fluconazole and ciprofloxacin) and the other I used? When they call to let me know how the cultures come out I will ask but just want to know. Thanks

HollyHobby replied: "I did a web search, and the vagisil and the monistat are safe to use during pregnancy. Ciprofloxacin is also considered safe to use during pregnancy. Fluconazole is probably safe, but it's recommended to NOT take it during pregnancy unless the benefit outweighs the risk, because there's not enough information available. Bear in mind that the problems reported involved women with serious infections who were taking high doses of the medication for a prolonged period of time, not regular women who took normal doses for a short period of time. You should call your doctor, tell him you may possibly be pregnant, and ask if he still recommends taking the fluconazole. (It's almost certainly safe.) In the future, make it clear what your pregnancy status is (definitely pregnant, definitely not pregnant, or possibly pregnant) any time you see the doctor."

The worst heartburn, please, I beg you to help! SOS!? I have had pretty bad heartburn for the last 17-18 hours, and I have no idea why. I have also had problems with kidney stones, and flank pain within the past 2 weeks. My heartburn is not getting better, and it is very very painful, and making me feel increasingly uncomfortable. I have taken tums, and I have also taken a laxative. I just got done taking some ciprofloxacin for my urinary track infection, but stopped taking a few days ago. I stiil have an infection, and a mild yeast infection because of the cipro (antobiotic). I have no idea why I am feeling this much pain, and nothing I do seems to help in the slightest way. I am going to the doctor tomorrow, but I need relief right now. I want to knock myself our or something, the pain is unbearable.

soso _jrock revolution replied: "Be calm. Drink milk! Take care. I hoped it helped.."

nurseflowergirl replied: "probably the cipro annoyed your stomach. you may want to buy acidophyllus, good bacteria in capsules to replace the ones the antibiotic killed off. if you have yougart, that can sooth too and add back more good bacteria. you can continue with the tums but better would be a pill form like nexium or other over the counter antacid. to knock yourself out, take benadryl. it is the main ingredient in otc sleep medicines.please be sure to discuss all with the md 2morrow as you can actually have an ulcer.goodluck;) also if you notice any bleeding, or dark stool be sure to tell the md cause you could have a stomach bleed."

petunia1 replied: "Call your Dr. asp. Could be your heart causing this or a hernia."

Jay replied: "JenFer J. personally I would never want to kick myself out if I had a bad pain and I was not sure what was causing it. If you WERE knocked out, and you had a major medical problem...guess what...you would not be alert enough to take care of an emergency or call 911 or go to the hospital. The previous advisors were good. Jay I hope you're OK by now, or you should go to the Emergency Room if it gets worse or doesn't go away. 17-18 hours is a long time for heartburn. I know some say Tums don't work, but they do work for me. Good luck. Jay"

Help! I have been in hospital 2 times with "kidney stone pains", nausea, and now heartburn! Need to know cause I have been in the hospital before, due to kidney stones. But the past two weeks have been very strange for me. I have been in the ER twice for "kidney stone pain", I was incredibly nauseated, and puked in the hospital parking lot, I was prescribed "Ciprofloxacin" because I also had a Urinary track infection, & it's been over a week since I was in the hospital. I keep having themost intense heartburn/chest pains, but I want to wait it out at home. I have also been more anxious this week, more than any other week in my life, & I have no idea why. I am not sure if the medicine causes this? I have also switched my diet, as i am now a vegan, & do not eat meat, though I used to eat Pizza Hut chicken wings like there was no tomorrow, so maybe the uric acid has something to do with this. I have a yeast infection now because of taking the "cipro" but my heartburn lasts for about 12 hours, non stop, and hurts & makes me short of breath. I take tums, senna laxitive, and advil pm, nothing helps!!

S P replied: "what side is it on? Could be gallbladder..."

RuneAmok replied: "Have you read the pamphlet that comes with the pills? My experience has been that anti-b's cause a lot of side effects. If the side effect is something to worry about, it'll tell you. In either case, I would mention it to the doctor. I took Levaquin and it made me very jumpy, I had trouble getting to sleep, and my sleep was restless. It's good that you've gone veg - animal proteins are believed to contribute to stones."

Fleshy tissue coming from vagina? I am having some strange discharge that's being expelled from my vagina... Important facts: I do not know how long it has been since I've had a real period. I've been on the birth control shot [Depo-Provera] for over six months now. I've had two shots. But I've been spotting for about three weeks now. The color is dark reddish, dark brown. I have been diagnosed with vaginitis, a yeast infection, as well as a urinary tract infection. I have some vaginal gel that worked immediately, one fluconazole [diflucan] pill left, and 6 days of ciprofloxacin left. Before the medicine, I was experiencing pain and itching, but since the medicine has started working, the pain has subsided and all I'm left with is itchiness. I just took a shower today and noticed this fleshy discharge, and since have noticed it on the toilet paper. I'm curious if it's something to do with my uterine lining, the vaginal gel, the infections, or something completely different! Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Technically, there is a chance of pregnancy. Six guys in the last month, all unprotected. [Don't judge me, I know it was stupid. I don't need anonymous Yahoo! people to tell me that]. But I'm on the birth control shot. And last Monday, I was tested for STDs, and because of the spotting, they did a pregnancy test. The pregnancy test was negative and I'm still waiting for the STD results. But since then, I've had sex with guy #6, unprotected, on Wednesday night and Friday afternoon. If I conceived on either of those days, would a miscarriage 3-5 days later make sense? Or if I conceived on Friday, June 5th, would a doctor's pregnancy test be valid? I'm in such a predicament... >.< Aaand, I forgot to answer your other question... it looks very skinnish, not very mucousy.

caughtinthebrunt replied: "Just out of curiousity, is there a possibility of pregnancy? I ask because having mulitple infections with your vagina early in pregnancy & antibiotics can cause a miscarriage. Is the "fleshy tissue" more mucusy or skinish? If it's skinish my theory of miscarriage is strong, but if it's more mucus more than likely uterine lining."
