What does a caffeine withdrawl headache feel like? So for about a week I had been drinking coffee daily, and I hadn't been doing that for a month or two. A day or two after stopping that daily routine I got a fairly unpleasant headache. But it doesn't feel like a regular headache, so I'm wondering, anyone that has experienced a caffeine withrdawl headache, what did it feel like?

Lana replied: "like a full head headache. not one of those sinusy ones or frontal eye area. i don't know if this helps but it felt "dry". its hard to describe a headache... are you worried something else may be wrong? basically if advil isn't curing it, go see your doctor."

How much caffeine will cure or help a headache? Assuming it's not already a caffeine withdrawal headache, lol.

Tigger replied: "It depends on what's causing the headache. Usually one cup does it for me, or sometimes two. But keep in mind that dehydration and mild malnutrition can cause headaches too- in which case you shouldn't drink coffee. Instead, try lots of water or perhaps a small snack with a lot of protein."

susann replied: "Don't ingest too much caffeine, especially if you're taking an OTC headache med--they have caffeine added. Too much will raise your blood pressure and give you a different kind of headache!!! Try putting an icepack or cool rag on the back of your neck and/or your forehead. Lie down for little while, too. This usually helps."

Mike D replied: "It'sdifficultto say for certain, depending on the exact cause of the headache and what you have taken for it already. I can tell you that Tylenol 1's have 15 mg of caffeine and 8 mg codeine, and reccommended dose for adults is 2 caplets every 4-6 hours."

How do you geT rid of a caffeine headache? I quiT caffeine cold Turkey now I have These bad headaches and They won'T go away. Do you have any suggesTions To help geT rid of Them?

Loosewoman69 replied: "Drink some Pepsi"

Rox replied: "You can take some Excedrine, it will help with your headache and has a little caffeine in it to do the trick!"

strosfan replied: "Drink a cup of coffee. Don't quit cold turkey. Try and ween yourself off."

kitty replied: "Well have you ever thought about going half and half? That's what I did. Then eventually going caffeine free. I still drink half and half but limit mine to just about 2 cups in the AM.. I drink caff. free tea the rest of the day. I know it hurts but you have to ween yourself off it."

doubtingTom replied: "Have you cut it out on Caffeine ? That's a great news, Dear. Caffeine seems more harmful than what meets our mind. Actually, I thought of posting a question here. The negative effects are too serious though they're not supported by Medical Research. As Rox has said, try Excedrine for head ache. Try to reduce the consuption stage by stage, step by step. Don't stop all atonce. The limit is 300 mg per day. That won't harm you, I believe. Wish your attempt all the best. .."

reckerlove replied: "drink tea"

ken s replied: "i suggest you try again only this time cut down on the caffeine a little bit at a time"

Alfie333 replied: "Strosfan who answered your question is on the right track. Do not quit cold Turkey .Ween yourself off Coffee a little bit at at a time. Essentially, you are going through withdrawal symptoms."

J@$pe® replied: "Try Excedrin Maximum strength. My uncle says that's the best"

Black Sword replied: "Here are a few to try: 1. Tylenol 2. 7 shots of whiskey in 5 minutes 3. Being rocked to sleep. Use a big rock! 4. Sex 17 times per day 5. A long back rub with many gental kisses up and down your back 6. Smash your finger with a hammer! The head ache won't really go away, however you will forget about it! 7. Find someone you really don't like and beat the crap out of them The true cure....Have a cup of coffee :)"

How fast will drinking caffeine relieve a caffeine withdrawl headache? I think I have a caffeine withdrawl headache...I'm drinking tea right now...How fast do you think before it will go away? Thanks for takin the time Hope you're havin a great day/evening!

DOTTY C replied: "I'm a big coffee drinker and it takes about 20 minutes for my head to get better."

pppmntgrl replied: "With the tea, you may need more than one cup, but it should start within minutes. Have you considered coming off the caff?"

racer123 replied: "I've read that the time from ingestion to the time that caffeine transcends the blood/brain barrier-(and into the brain),takes 4-6 hours on average. It's a mental diversion ,away from the withdrawal,if relief comes much sooner. It's like fooling the brain with gratification of the senses before an actual physical addition is made."

Should be Working! replied: "Caffeine is my only vice. I tried to quit once and the headaches were so horrible I couldn't take it. It usually works within 15-30 minutes. And I like plain black coffee to get rid of the headaches the fastest. Best of luck to you."

Donald replied: "I have tried to stop drinking coffee and drink Horlick instead after being influenced by my wife. Months later I developed a chronic cough and took my doctor 3 months to find out the reason that I am allergy to Horlick. I lost 10 kgs in this transition. Now my wife has no choice to allow me to drink coffee again. I look better and is believeing that I think better. I have also read a study done by Kevin Warwick in year 2004. According to Kevin Warwick, a cup of coffee may boost your IQ. Kevin Warwick is Professor of Cybernetics at Reading University, UK. He led a study which found that after a cup of coffee people's IQ went by an average of three points. The effects of the increase in IQ were short-term. Warwick says that the results had useful implications for business. He presented his findings at the Annual Training Conference of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. My belief is coffee cups can be easily cleaned but tea cups stained. Choice is yours, Tea or Coffee ?"

How can I get rid of a caffeine headache? It is driving me nuts and I want to get rid of it so bad any suggestions on what to do? I had a a little more than a can of Mountain Dew yesterday at work and since than nothing. So I believe that I am going through a withdrawl

saturn replied: "Been there, take some Aleve."

*Sar-Bear* replied: "Its like drinking alchol the only way 2 avoid a hangover is stay drunk so keep drinking caffine Good luck"

littledevilinyourcup replied: "if it is a caffeine overdose headache lots of water to flush it out of you system If it is a lack of caffeine headache eating a piece of chocolate or drinking a glass of tea or soda will make it go away."

55yrsnholdin replied: "Aleve or ibu will work, but also drink a couple of glasses of water. It'll help flush you out."

Baby Poots replied: "I have found that three Extra-strength Tylenol (500 mg's each) alleviates most headaches I have. Anticipating a headache every day, I take three Extra-strength Tylenol when I get up. If, during the day, I feel a "headache" coming on, I take three more Tylenol. Severe headaches may be an indication of a medical problem only a physician can address. Perhaps you need to consult one."

Is there such a thing called a caffeine headache from not drinking coffee? Sometimes I get a headache when I dont drink coffee or energy drinks

Cherry replied: "What are the symptoms of caffeine withdrawal? Sun, 2006-01-15 20:08 — Daniel Regular caffeine consumption reduces sensitivity to caffeine. When caffeine intake is reduced, the body becomes oversensitive to adenosine. In response to this oversensitiveness, blood pressure drops dramatically, causing an excess of blood in the head (though not necessarily on the brain), leading to a headache. This headache, well known among coffee drinkers, usually lasts from one to five days, and can be alleviated with analgesics such as aspirin. It is also alleviated with caffeine intake (in fact several analgesics contain caffeine dosages). Often, people who are reducing caffeine intake report being irritable, unable to work, nervous, restless, and feeling sleepy, as well as having a headache. In extreme cases, nausea and vomiting has also been reported."

zeroaero9 replied: "I agree its caffeine withdrawal"

Serpentine Fire replied: "Yep. It's caffeine withdrawl. If you want to decrease your caffeine intake, doing gradually and drinking beverages with a lower caffeine content (like tea) can help. If the amount of caffeine your drinking doesn't bother you, then a regular pain reliever like ibuprofen will work."

Dayle H replied: "Yes, I have had them!!!!!!!!!!"

Claire de Lune replied: "Yes, it's from caffeine withdrawal and you can get it from tea also."

How long does a caffeine withdrawal headache last? I'm on the 2nd day with no caffeine and its starting. I usually end up drinking some caffeine now. Anyone know how long it last without drinking anything?

thickchick76 replied: "Several days."

stclh01 replied: "You aren't helping it by drinking more...and if you eat chocolate, that will make it worse, too. Get through two full days free of the stuff, and it should go away. If it doesn't, go to the Dr. because it isn't just a caffeine headache."

rissasmom replied: "For me, it's usually a couple of days. Ever thought of weaning yourself off instead of going cold turkey? That way no headache!"

shoegodess replied: "When I do the caffeine kick its usually day 3 that gets me the worst. Then just a gradual ache for 2 days after. Good luck and hang in there."

julesl68 replied: "Could be up to a week. You can "wean" yourself a little more slowly off the caffeine and potentially forgo the headaches by mixing caffeine and decaf (or if it's soda, then caffeine free), then easing off the caffeine portion day by day until you're totally done with it."

sister cool breeze replied: "with me until the next coke or cup of coffee, if you want to stop drinking caffeine, ween yourself from it a little at a time so your body don't go into shock (headaches) then before you know it, you will not want or need it. good luck"

jenn replied: "it take several days depending on how much you have in your system and how long it takes to get out of your system. i am not brave enough to stop using it. so props to ya!"

What's the best way to get rid of a caffeine-withdrawal headache (besides drinking more caffeine)? Trying to get off caffeine but the headaches are killing me. Any ideas on how to get through the withdrawal period? Acupuncture? Please help!

astroservus replied: "Small pieces of chocolate. But don't go overboard or trade one habit for another."

dj nano replied: "Caffeine withdrawal shouldnt last much longer than a week. It's ok to use tylenol while you withdraw."

stormyrw replied: "try taking excedrine migraine. i've found it helps when trying to get over a caffeine headache. hope it works for you."

just common sense replied: "Actually, it should go away in about 3 days; if you're past the 3 day mark, you *really* had a caffeine addiction! Maybe go with a half-caff coffee (just ONE cup) and slowly add decaff coffee daily until you work yourself down to fully decaf coffee. Once you're there, just quit drinking the decaf. Excedrin has a low dose of caffeine in it, so if you've not used that yet, you might give it a try. Do NOT exceed the recommended dosages. DISCLAIMER: NEVER, EVER, EVER TAKE MEDICAL ADVICE OVER THE INTERNET"

Rachel replied: "I had this problem when i gave up coffee. One good alternative is to drink Green tea (U can add a teabag of berry or herbal tea like peppermint to make it taste better) It has a minimal ammount of caffine in it that will keep the headaches at bay and green tea is great for ur immune system, ur metabolism, and also contains anti-oxidents that help protect u from cancer. I drink 2-3 cups a day now and i dont even miss my coffee."

confusedbunny replied: "drink loads of water to flush out the toxins and syndol is a good headache tablet"

How to Stop a Caffeine Withdraw Headache? I stopped drinking diet soda 24 hour ago and is having a strong internal pressure headache on the righ-front side of my head. Should I walk, take a hot shower, bleed myself, take some shots, exercise, or just take it like a man?

oldtimekid replied: "Drinking water will help to detox, and taking some supplements that work as cleansers may help as well. Specifically, Apple Cider Vinegar, Green Tea (decaffeinated), Chlorophyll (fantastic cleanser), and even good amounts of fiber and water helps some people (although it's not very comfortable for the lower level of detoxification you get)."

ncshrty05 replied: "theres nothing that you can really do to ease it much... I had the same withdrawl effects after having drinking 3-4 drinks of Starbucks Frapuchhino drinks a day. It takes about a week after you stop drinking the caffeine drink for the withdrawl effects to wear off. I suggest that if you want, keep drinking the diet soda, but choose the caffeine free kind. It actually tastes pretty good."

hyehokis replied: "Try Gatoraide- It is helpful with Caffiene headaches!"

fiddlesticks replied: "It sounds to me as though you are taking it exactly like a man!"

Nurse Susan replied: "1] do you drink any other caffeine/ [ coffee, tea, chocolate? ] Try a big iced tea, if all else fails [ and you're a wuss...] 2] Motrin or Tylenol or Excedrin migraine 3] cold pack at back of your neck [ use small bag of generic brand frozen peas or corn in ziploc bag, wrapped in paper towel or dishcloth - can be re-used indefinitely, just don't eat it ] 4] exercise [ it will distract you ] 5] suck it up - lasts from two days to two weeks! [ Now, don't you feel sorry for all those pregnant ladies who gave up caffeine? ] TIP: try cutting back gradually - less painful. [ 1/2 average for three days, then 1/4 for three days, then one a day, etc.]"

deborah l replied: "thats a tough one. have you tried a cup of coffee. maybe just wean yourself off the soda slowly rather than just quit. how ever many you were drinking decrease that by half and then tomorrow decrease and eventually you will be free and clear. no need to make your life miserable by trying to stop cold turkey."

Ambassador Z replied: "Take 2 Excedrin Tension Headache tablets. It contains caffeine and will also ease your headache. Don't take it before bedtime or it will keep you up as well. I recommend that you follow (after the headache is gone) with drinking plenty of water to flush the toxins from your body (about 6 cups or more in one day). But please, don't bleed yourself. :-)"

Is there such a thing as too much coffee that you get a caffeine headache? I have been making double strong coffee at home with frozen double strength coffee ice cubes. Each day I make a super sized iced coffee for work.. have had headaches alot recently. Since this past weekend when I started drinking them.

Chris M replied: "Yes. Ive had them before. But I drank too much tea."

sk8tergurl replied: "Yes"

wicca_chicca65 replied: "yes i gotten one before. but i got it form trying to get away from coffee. i got use to drinking about 3 full pots a day and recently i just to slack off of it and it started to make me get sick leading to a headache"

mymolly replied: "yep"

trueblue88 replied: "Overcaffeination can cause your heart to race and your blood vessels to restrict. I do not know why it causes headaches medically, but I do know that I get them too. Try some decaf, all that caffeine is not good for you."

Mom replied: "Yes,I call it a caffeine hang over."

dhmobil replied: "It's quite possible"

thewhirledismine replied: "I've taken half a bottle of NoDoz before (straight caffeine pills) and i never got a headache, just felt good."

dezboy23 replied: "Dehydration or blood pressure could also be a factor!"

panthurdreams replied: "Yes. I get them all the time cause I am desperate for coffee in the mornings and drink to much. Then I have caffeine (pop) and the afternoon. So not only am I jittering but I got a headache and I can't think straight."

cooltoque replied: "Yes when you have caffine withdrawl you will get a headache. Cut back before the night sweats begin! Trust me on this."

Ford replied: "You are probably drinking too much coffee. Try to make the ice cupes from Decaffeinated coffee"

Jason replied: "Some possible causes of that could be increased blood pressure from the caffeine, or dehydration (which can cause headaches) because coffee is a diuretic. These are just possibilites, and I have no medical training, just making an educated guess."

legal&sane replied: "OUCH. Drink lots of water to flush it out. Actually caffeine should improve headaches. If you have high blood pressure then that why you've been having headaches. Get it checked out."

dog2b2000 replied: "Too much or not enough caffeine can lead into headaches. Try not drinking so much coffee and see what that does. You sound like you are a coffee addict and possibly under alot of stress.??"

momacrissy replied: "The headaches can be related to TOO much caffeine intake or even withdrawals from not getting the caffeine you are used to having. You could also be getting stress headaches or maybe it's something you began eating. So many things that can cause headaches. If you use a computer alot, maybe you are straining your eyes and this causes the headache."

The Shadow replied: "Yes, most definitely. The caffeine in the coffee makes your blood pressure and heart rate sky rocket, which causes pressure in the blood vessels, which will cause you to get headaches. I would suggest cutting back a bit on the coffee products. Just get more sleep or something if you are tired and need them to stay awake. That caffeine is doing a real number on your body, it always does."

multan21122 replied: "I sure think so, I have had too much before and had a terrible headache. I think it is the caffeine causing blood pressure to raise."

Big fella replied: "yes more than 6 cups a day will likley give you a headache and then when you stop you will get one as you withdraw!! once you have one just drink lots of water to flsuh some of the caffeine out quickly"

wncan47 replied: "you better beleive coffee or tea or those eye opening super charged drinks you can get at convience stores like red bull or blue bull. too much caffiene is terrible for your heart.it will cause your heart to race and flutter which is a bad feeling when your young. lay off the hard stuff and if you have to have coffee drink decafe."

Angel replied: "I know that there is such a thing as caffeine withdrawal headaches, where you stop drinking caffeine products all together and you get headaches, but I have heard of headaches with too much caffeine also, as well as it making your heart race or pound. try weaning off it slowly. dont do double strength. also, you could be getting a type of 'frozen'headache if your drinking your iced coffees too fast! hope you feel better!"

doccizpagan replied: "Unfourtunatly the power of the BEAN is a cruel & loving thing,Yes it is possible that your double-ups are caauseing your headaches, what I do in the morning is wait until my coffee pot is about half full but still brewing then I pour my first cup,it's like a kicker to my day then I drink it after it's finnished.Iced coffee will almost everytime give you your pains.I suggest adding creamer and suger to your iced version before you ice it down.I use french vanilladry creamer for that one.I'm glad to finally know that I am not alone in my love of the almighty BEAN!!"

danl858 replied: "Too much of anything is typically not good for you. Caffeine causes the brain's blood vessels to constrict. So those headaches you're getting are signals that your brain is not getting enough blood (nutrients, oxygen, etc.) Wouldn't it have been a good idea to stop drinking so much coffee if it was causing you pain? Good luck."

Alag N replied: "stop taking it. find out if you stop getting the headaches as well. you will find out for yourself. what applies to one neednt apply for another. You should know the quantity and quality before you do anything in excess."
